Love a Good Theme

Miss Bella requested an Eiffel Tower cake for her birthday. After an hour of looking at possibilities on the internet, it wasn't looking very promising.

Did you know you can order a tower KIT from the UK for $140?
We couldn't find anything that I could possibly create, so Bella printed off her logo from her etsy store.

(Since we're speaking of her store, if you need an etsy store banner or other graphics, she's your gal. Take a look by clicking on her banner below.) :-)

I'm no Des when it comes to cake decorating, but I do really like it. I need some tips on how to get this smooth -- I tried.
Voila....
I'm for quick... those are inedible foam flowers. Stickers, to be exact, but they did not stick to the icing. Perfect color.
Another tip I need, how do you end the shell technique? I can never never quite tuck it back in.

The source of her obsession.
She's changed a little in the past 4 years.
Joyeux Anniversaire!
Happy Birthday -- Sweet Sixteen!

Graduation Giveaway~ WINNER chosen

Update: Thank you everyone for your sweet words and funny stories. I enjoyed them all. Corrie came down and we had a nice time at the ceremony. No tears. All smiles. It was great and very rewarding.
Winner tonight is: Paintergal! Congratulations. Take a look in the store and pick a fabric with blue, white or black in it!! Let Corrie know.
See you next Thursday! My son is graduating from High School today.
I'm just not too sure about all of this.
I don't like the changes that are coming.
But I love the young adult he has become.

I'll try to focus on that today and not the fact that my little red headed boy is moving on in the world.

In honor of the Class of 2009, we're giving away One yard of fabric with blue, white or black in it, commenters choice!

Leave me a happy/funny graduation memory comment.
I don't want to be sad today.

Infinite Wisdom

Corrie's cutie-pie daughter, Miss Bella,
collects all the extra odds and ends from the
endless cuttings of charm packs at Quilt Taffy.
Lucky girl.
In my infinite wisdom,
( I never say that, but that's what my friends tell me....
...that I have infinite wisdom.
Quick, name that movie!) :)
I showed her how to make this block I saw on the TallGrass Prairie Blog.
I think she's going to have something pretty spectacular when it's all done!!

Well, we're not at Quilt Market (in PITTsburgh, Pennsylvania) & you're not either.

Let's have a PITTy Party together.

Today's giveaway will be 1 yard of some cherry PITT themed fabric.

It will be surprise.

Leave a comment telling us what is the pitts in your life today.

We'll start:

Corrie Dawn is on Jury Duty. She loves her country, but really, I'm visiting her right now and her civic duty is getting in the way.

Bakerella doesn't live here

I just wanted to bake a simple layer cake for Marsha's birthday.
I am not Corrie.
I can't even imagine actually decorating a cake
to look like anything more than 2 circles.

I was going to go all out and put it on a cake stand, though.
{Me = Going all out = Cake Stand Cake}

I tried Martha's trick of putting the wax paper underneath so that the plate stays clean. This didn't even become blog worthy until I tried to remove the wax paper.
I think it's supposed to be parchment paper.
My wax paper didn't budge without the whole cake splitting in half.

So I smushed it all back together, added a pound more of frosting, sprinkles and candles and called it a day.

Dinner was still super yummy.
I simmered Marinara Sauce all day.
Oh, I could bathe in it. I look good in red.
Meatballs and I tried this psuedo Olive Garden Breadsticks and they turned out PERFECT. That's a first for me!

What is most hysterical is I was actually, truly contemplating making this.
No, seriously.

Bakerella has left the building.

Garden Cheesecake

Neighbors....

Mike to the rescue, as always. Mike is a fireman.

He tells you how it is. No fluff. I think you either really like him or you really don't.
I really like him (& his wife).

You don't mess with Mike. I doubt he would approve of his picture on the blog, so I had to snap it quick.

He very kindly came over & plowed our two large garden spots.

He won't let us pay him, so we had to do something.

Spent two days making this for him (and we had to have one too).

Okay, mine didn't look exactly like that, but it looked pretty good, don't you think?

It tasted really good.

Have you made cheesecake?

No, not the stuff out of the box.

Put it in the oven for two hours, take it out for ten minutes, run around the block, then put it in again for three hours, turn the oven off and let it sit for 10 minutes, turn the oven on and do a jig. Then place in the refrigerator uncovered, but exactly nine hours later, uncover. You can't leave your house for two days.

It actually tasted better the third day. I think Mike liked it. His wife was out of town, and I don't think he told her about it. It was gone by the time she got back.

Got the recipe out of this great cookbook that Des gave me.

I was thrilled to find the recipe online just for you.
