Great new collection by My Mind's Eye from Riley Blake Designs.
bicycles, motorbikes, van, traffic signs and much more... Let's go driving... these are cool -- great browns and the red is combined with orange -- it really pops.
We've got fat quarters, fat eighths, charm squares and yardage on eBay and etsy.
Check, Check and Check. Just cruising through those projects I started at Corrie's. This is another fun idea I saw on Oh Fransson! There are few things I love more than a wonky nine patch. Well, maybe a crocheted monkey or two.
Baby boy fabrics and styles of quilt can be tough sometimes. But I'm currently obsessed with blues and greens and browns. I now want yards of this Sock Monkey Brushed cotton that is the sashing. I think it works with so many things. I had some leftover blue pieces of minky that I played with to fit for the back. I don't think the baby boy is going to be named something with a "T". But it can always stand for Terrific.....or talented.....or totally tubular. Fabrics for this very quilt are available in Charms, Fat Quarters and even the exact number of 10" squares you need to make this!
I am not of Japanese descent but I wish I was. I'm pretty sure my babies would have rocked a kimono!!
Picture this: long sleeve onesie with some cute little tights underneath. This might be my next baby gift of choice .....even over a quilt! Perish the thought!
Tutorial here. While the tutorial is not super thorough and you do need some sewing experience.....she has given you a great way to make a pattern and has provided numerous sizes AND it's totally free. Love that! I made the 6mos, size. For this size it would be cute to pick out 3 fat quarters. 2 for the kimono and one for the binding. I used a 14" square to make my bias binding. I cut my binding 1 1/2 " wide.
. Attaching the bias around the neck was a trick. But I'm a tricky girl and was motivated by the challenge! I unpicked 3 times. I am kimono maker, hear me roar!!
Any thoughts on Kimonos for boys? Are you the mom that would not have any problems putting her strapping son in something that looks like a dress? I'm pretty sure I would have done it. Just don't let his chubby legs chafe.
I can't wait to make her sundress next!! I promise not to make my son wear it. He IS 19.
However, I do love what I love and I love to share it with you.
And I'm pretty sure I've yet to steer you wrong.
Robin Hood, the series from the BBC. You can currently catch Seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix instant viewing.
I love you Netflix!
Season 3 is just recently out and I'm keeping those at my house for as long as possible. Because I just really, really love it. Not because I'm addicted to it or anything. The preview below is very serious but my favorite part of this series is the characters and the humor and wit.
Marsha just announced for the 7 time today, "Oh Mom!! Robin is soooooo cute!!"
Yes, honey, he is.........almost as cute as your daddy.
She calls this the elusive "Indienne" fabric (floral). Should have saved me some. She has big plans for American Vintage. I can't wait to see what she does. Thank you Michèle!
Been corresponding with a new friend, Michèle, in France while waiting for her Quilt Taffy package to arrive. The package detoured through the rain & Germany, but ultimately made it! Hurray! It took a few weeks longer than expected but she was very patient and super sweet.
Michèle creates these sewing boxes. She sold many in France and Japan, but the market isn't very good for these right now, so she creates them for herself and her grandkids. She adds small ARI dolls from the fifties made in Germany.
So inspiring -- the details, the workmanship, the creativity.
Thought you might enjoy them too.
Michèle does not have a site or a blog. She needs one.
Tomorrow, we'll see what she did with Rouenneries.
.....me and Boy George. I never thought he would enter my blog posts, but the time has come.
This tumbler quilt has been one I've been watching for a while .....at least since Monday. Actually, I remember having visions of me making a tumbler quilt from all of my scraps in the 90's.
While hanging out at Corrie's house, it's hard not to just start pulling charm packs from the shelves and start sewing.
So this Crazy Mom tutorial on Moda Bake Shop was a good fit for me. I loved making it. It was super easy and I now want to make all my baby quilts just like this. At least, until I don't want to anymore.
Basket of Flowers Charm Packs I was surprised how fast it went. And I was surprised how fun it was to make the little template with the cardboard square in the charm pack. And I was surprised how large the quilt was. And I was surprised how much I loved the red fabric with the teeny, tiny blue flower on it. And I was surprised that Corrie didn't have any of that fabric left. And then I was surprised to find that it took me 2 whole Harry Potter movie's to machine quilt the thing. I am not surprised, however, that I now want to make one out of every new charm pack that comes out.
