Ugly? Fabric Gift

At our Christmas quilt group meeting,
we're exchanging
"ugly fabric"
gifts.
I guess they were tired of sweet,
little, pretty gifts.?

Clever.

Over a month ago, we all brought a fat quarter
in a brown paper bag,
so no one saw
& traded.
And then you have to make something incorporating the fabric.

Do you think it's ugly?
Actually,
DO NOT answer that.

It's perfectly lovely.

I've been a little stumped.
The fabric belongs to a lady that reminds me of my mother-in-law, &
I kept thinking she would really love this fabric.

So, I've been wanting to try making a little purse
with metal clasp handles.

Here's the purse body,
but....
now I'm not liking it.

Plan B

Plan B is
a little pinwheel patchwork in Circa 1934 reds.
You attach the frame using thread.
I used black Prescenia thread & my nifty Quilter's Tips,
because that needle was not coming through.

How do you like the lining?

How do you like it now?

Going to find some fun stuff
to fit in there.

Hope it's ugly enough.

We hope you
have a wonderful day
with your
family & friends.

And after that,
we'll see you at midnight
at the mall.
I've got teenagers,
that's what we need to do.
It's how those special holiday
memories are made.

Actually, one of my most favorite memories with my dad is --
this only happened once --
6AM day after Thanksgiving shopping.
It's just something he would never in a million years do,
but he was there??
I didn't ask why,
but it meant a lot.

It was a workout -- lost 3 pounds this weekend :).
Gotta love that.

Ghastlie Blog Hop

Update: Congrats to
Quilter in the Gap #18, you won the bag!
And I sent in Loralynn's name #134 last night
and she won!
You won a gift certificate from Quilt Taffy!!

Welcome, welcome to our
Ghastlie Blog Hop Stop!
I know,
I know,
you just want to get to the pictures.
Me too.

This is my new favorite little bag pattern,
Peek-a-Boo Bag
by Sweet Treasures.
It has a clear section in the middle so you can see inside.
There's even a little Prudence zipper tab
(look close on the left).

My first experience with the Ghastlies was as my
Alexander Henry rep pulled out this giant fabric card, he opened it
& there she was.
The little hammer girl
&
and all her ghastly friends.

They made me smile
all
day
long.

~
I wanted to keep the scenes fairly intact,
so here is Kitchen Window out of
Elizabeth Hartman's
The Practical Guide to Patchwork.

Let's look at it again. :)
And then for the little tormentors in your life.
A
Ghastlie
playset.

Just think someday they'll say ...
"Remember when we went to Grandma's and played
w/ those mean, scary dolls."

And when the kids aren't playing,
they double as pincushions.

With taffy pins,
of course.
(pins made by me)
I just found her with
taffy poked in her eyes.
Actually shocked me.
Who would dare to do that?
(I got a confession; it was my 5 year old.)
~
Leave one comment on this blog by 9pm EST to be entered into:
Madame Samm's big drawing, which is
a gift certificate from us where you can
buy more Ghastlie fabric :) or anything else...

&
mention if you'd like to win a Peek-a-Boo bag
I'm giving one of those away too!

Thank you
Madame Samm for making this happen!

Be sure to visit these Ghastlie gals today!
