Remember Me When This You See

Just spiffing up the porch tonight for company...here is one of the very first quilts I made. Years ago, our local quilt store was ahead of its time -- they had pre-cut charm squares of Debbie Mumm Halloween fabrics & neutrals.

I drew some of the shapes on a piece of paper & used a lightbox to transfer them onto the fabric and then quilted them in black. Easy & fun. It looks like my corners matched up. Charm squares are a good way to ease new quilters into the process. (Just got some cute ones in from Mary Engelbreit and Sandy Gervais.)

The orange and white quilt I leave up all year. It's an autograph quilt that Des found. Endearing...the names are "Aunt Opal, Ada, Mildred, Clara, Peg, Myrna....Hazel." I don't know when it was made or by whom. But it has found a home and each of these sweet ladies is remembered.

  1. i always stop and think when i hear this saying. it never seems important to make a quilt to remember those you see often. but i've changed my mind. i think it's the most important thing a quilter can do. your quilt is very creative. love the two of them together. very October-y.

  5. What sweet keepsakes! A lot of history in the orange and white one. Don't you wish you knew the story? I like your Halloween quilt - is the black quilting all done by hand??

  6. Hi Cheryl,
Yes the black quilting is done by hand. I wish the orange one was signed by someone, so you knew who made it.
