Patience is a Virtue

Sewing with my kids always sounds like such a good idea. It will be a special mother & son experience. We'll bond & laugh. HA... it takes an incredible amount of standing, waiting, pinning & gritting of teeth.

Shadowman started on this a month ago. He's a good sport and puts up with my impatience.

I really like using the Sewing Edge with kids. It's that purple removable adhesive strip. It helps them keep the fabric going in the right direction.

Ouch....Only one small burn on his hand.

We have this kit in the store. It is a fast & easy quilt top perfect for the cabin, the family room, the husband.... This is one of my favorite patterns (Just Can't Cut It), because you get to see the great prints.

This quilt is going to be for his dad. He needs a quilt of his own. Shhhhh. No fear, he never reads the blog. Just need to get it quilted. I was excited to get the woodsy flannel in, his dad will like it. I like it. Soft & cuddly. And yes, it will have minkee on the back!

Shadowman -- you rock!

  1. That is awesome! I wonder if one day Chase might want to try sewing. He already loves doing crafts with me! I can only hope. It looks like shadowman did a fantastic job, and I have that material already, might have to buy the pattern??!! I'm gonna have to quit reading your blog, it keeps costing me money lol. I love that material as we did a hunting theme in our basement for my husband and that would make a perfect throw for that room!! Thanks again for the inspiration!

  5. That really turned out great. My 13 year old son signed up for sewing this semester and he likes to sew more than my younger girls. Sometimes I'll walk in my sewing room and he's on my machine making some crazy little pouch or something to carry junk in. It makes me a little nervous, I'm kind of protective of my machine but he's done ok with it. It is good for them.

  7. What a great quilt and what a great son. Your purple sewing edge caught my eye...that is a good idea. I have a quarter inch foot that lives in my machine. Trouble is, I forget to change it when I go to zig zag. I've broken many needles that way. This would be a good cure.

  11. WOWEEE! What a great job he did! Well you must have done a great job too, Corrie, to get him to this point. :D Is the hand in the pocket to avoid another burn? Have that pattern and I am going to have to USE it!

  14. You do have patience. I think God forgot to add patience when I was born! I often wish now I had children at home to teach. My youngest daughter couldn't sew a button on if her life depended upon it. Gosh I remember in school we had home Ec! Half the year we learned to cook, the other half to sew. Now what do the kids do? I know they throw away and go out and buy new. What happened to the old ways, they seem to always be the best. Your son is dong a great job and will be very proud to present this to dad when it's completed. Such a feel of accomplishment he will have. Rae Ann

  16. Wow! Looks great! I teach sewing in my classroom after school. No charge, just come and sew. The last day before winter break I had a little girl who REALLY wanted to finish a pillow for her grandmother. I was so tired and ready to be home. I was standing behind her gently guiding the fabric in the right direction and she says, "Who stands behind you?" lol
    Nice work Shadowman!

  19. You do rock shadow man, it looks awesome! I haven't developed enough in the patience department to sew with my kids yet so I tip my hat to you. I just throw them my scraps, a piece of construction paper, and a glue stick and let them "quilt" that way ;o).
