I Just Saved Myself 150 BUCKS

I happen to be a BIG fan of infomercials. Mostly because when you don't have cable, that's pretty much all you're stuck with on a Saturday afternoon. Well Time Life had me Romancing to the 70's this weekend. Hubby and I were singing along and I was about ready to "make that call" and talk to Tony Orlando himself!!!
But then I remembered that I needed to buy groceries and fabric, so my trip down memory lane was over.
UNTIL, I remembered Playlist.
I just whipped over to Time Life.com got a list of the music on this AMAZING, Tony said so, set of songs from the 70's.

I've been reliving my days in the 70's. Cruising in an RV belting out, "Hey, did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world?"

My dad was a little bit country.

I was 10. I was impressionable.

I spent my fair share of time in roller rinks and nothing says, smoke and smelly skates like, "Brandy, You're a Fine Girl".

I play the piano. At 12, I knew that I was meant for the county Fairgrounds not Carnegie Hall. And let me tell you, I can give Debby Boone and Anne Murray, a run for their money. I'm pretty sure I sang "You Light Up My Life" 15 thousand times that summer. I think I need to Netflix this.

I remember making a potholder on a loom of bedded nails to the tunes of Kodachrome at Amy Ricecake's house. I wonder is she's on Facebook. :)

So if you're over 35 and would like to reminisce with me, feel free. Actual playlist is at the bottom of the blog. I promise, I'm only going to put the 'autostart' on today. Tomorrow, you'll have to go to the bottom to click the music.

OR shell out $150 and you too could be groovin' to the smoothest and most romantic music of the 70's. Tony Orlando said.

  1. Des, where are you when I need you? I love infomercials and I have to watch them all by myself, I also don't have cable ;o). I was rockin' to "Malt Shop Memories" last Saturday night. I almost wanted to own them... almost.
If they ever come out with "Great Grundge" or "Nothing like the 90's"- something like that I'll be running for the phone!

  2. yep, I can belt out with the rest of them...not so nice sounding but who cares!!! My husband just brought some kind of series for the 70's, 10 DVD....on ebay..he loves them and as he is listening to each one,he will tell you what he was doing when he originally heard that song....

  3. Okay, I didn't know you played piano. I do too, sorta. And while I'm just a tick shy of 35, I do remember most of those songs. And I have one of those potholder looms in the cabinet. I was teaching Sara how to make them. How funny. And kudos to you for saving 150 bucks. Isn't amazing how different songs take you back to different times in your life. Thank you for sharing.

  5. I am 41 and remember all those things, including us having an RV and travelling for 4 weeks from Texas to Baja, up the Pacific coast to Vancouver then down through Montana, Colorado, etc. By week 3, my mom hit her head on the top bunk and demamded she needed a ticket to go home! But it was a fun trip. I, too played the Debby Boone song on the piano and it needed to stay home (!)

  6. Wow...did you bring back the memories today...I remember (vividly) all of those things. I made more of those potholders than you could ever imagine!

  7. I adore project playlist.

I am more of an 80's music generation girl. Although I can belt out some pretty good 70's tunes.

I am trying to spend some money with you guys at Etsy. I hope you have what I need!

  14. What a GREAT post!! I was just answering a question on message board about fave workout songs. Almost all of mine are from the 70's, some from the 80's and then 50's and 60's for good measure. I don't even KNOW what songs are out now unless my kids tell me (and then they are most likely country). I LOVE what a song can do...transport you like a time machine. Knock Three Times - my sister's bedroom and we are singing & laughing. EVERY SINGLE TIME I hear it! That seems to come on the SIRIUS radio station at the gym often. So many songs tied to my time with dh, since we met in high school. We usually have a song for ANY occasion (much to the disappointment of our children :D ). I can't sing worth a lick (but I do anyway in front of the family) but I do have a piano you are welcome to play.
BTW - LOVE infomercials, even those I have seen before.

  16. Des, I knew we ran in the same circles. I watch those stupid infomercials too for lack of cable! I can tell you just about every place I was or what I was doing on your playlist! Great memories!

  17. You light up my life. Ahhh, I was clicking everywhere to turn that off -- volume was way too high. That's how my husband knows I'm reading blogs when I should be doing other things. "Yes dear, I'm really working. No, you can't have the computer."

  18. Yes I am over 35. I remember the 70s fondly. I graduated in 1975 and was married in 1979. The golden age of innocence - mostly. Those songs speak to me, too. Only on a different level. The songs from the 60s bring me memories of being 10 and having my sisters play the radio constantly. I was the baby by 8 years in my family and my older sisters were very sophisticated and Dionne Warwick and early Carpenters songs were a staple. As well as show tunes from the 50s. We had those records - someone gave them to my mom, or we would not have had them. Music brings good memories.

    Your posts are so fun.

I love saving money like that. Only it isn't really savings, I wish. I'm sure you do too.

  19. oooh, music from the seventies was the best! Not that I'm old enough to remember the seventies, I've just heard them on oldies cd's. yeah. that's my story.

  20. Yes it's true. YOu crack me up. I so love all those old songs....wait, if they are old, then I am old. They just don't make music like they used to. You could fall in love just listening to it. Old Smold. It is all a state of mind until you look in the mirror. I miss the olden days and you living by me. Life was so good then.

  22. Ha ha.. I had my first "real job" in the 70's at a pizza place. A few songs that put me right back in that pizza kitchen are:
December 1963 (Oh What a Night; Dreamweaver, Chevy Van - and a few others. These were on the jukebox and were played a lot!
