39,000 yards

........of thread.
It just makes me feel secure.
I start to get a little antsy when my thread stash gets down to one or two spools.
I love the variety sets at Connecting Threads.
They do all my thinking for me.
Thank you.
A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
Oh, they just came out with the big CONE of thread now too,
in all my favorite neutral-y colors. 5,000 yards!
Thanks, again.

I use this thread for all of my piecing and I use it for small machine quilting projects. Oh, and patching levis. Oh, and sewing of any kind. It's 100% cotton. I once thought that I wanted a thread that caused less lint but I have gotten awfully good at cleaning out my machine that now I look FORWARD to de-lintifying all the nooks and crannies. It just feels good.
Good for the soul.
Good for the bowels of my machine.
I feel everytime I get my little lint brush out that I've done some good in the world.

I've never really been in to the high end thread selections out there. I've tried one or two $8 spools in my day and I just wasn't blown away by them. In fact, all they did was jam my machine. I quickly found out from a snobby quilt store owner that because I hadn't always treated my machine to the higher end thread that the cheaper stuff had...."worn something away somewhere so that something would get stuck and fall in a crevice somewhere" and there was no turning back now.
Well, okay. I'll just save myself $6 a spool, thanks.
And as long as I'm saving money......I'll take 30 spools, please.

Perhaps my grandma had the same need for thread.
This is a little variety pack that has been
stolen handed down through the generations.
And Because we are a full-service blog here,
check out this little video about thread and this one.

  1. You would totally laugh at my thread stash. I buy one little 100yd spool (sometimes 250 or even 500yd spool if I'm feeling greedy) for each project that I'm doing, and I match my thread colors then and there. You might be onto something though, it would be nice to have a variety in the drawer and not have to worry about running out of thread mid-project {shriek!!!}

P.S. the word verification is impro... isn't that funny? that I might have to improvise my thread due to a shortage or something?? I'm looking forward to the thursday comments section when you used these words!!

  4. THANK YOU for this link! gah--when I think how much money I've shelled out to JoAnn's for plain ol' white cotton thread. Now, if I could just find some equally inexpensive polyester thread. Every week when I go use the longarm I get charged an add'l $6 for their thread.
HEY! I just got the Cinderella pdf to work!! FINALLY thought to download the darned thing, rather than keep trying to open it online, and POOF! there it is. I knew you had good time-saving tips in it, which was why I was so adamant about seeing it. Like making two triangle pieces out of a square (step 2). I just never seem to think up the seemingly obvious tricks on my own. so THANKS!!
btw, I have that very same thread stash from my grandma :-)

  6. Wish you would have posted this a couple of weeks ago, I bought small spools at J's of almost all the colors in the Tropical collection! The thread was 50% off that day so maybe I didn't do too bad. I even took pictures of my new thread collection because they were so pretty.
My word verification is MINES, all mines :D

  7. I was also down to the tiny bits of my thread stash a month ago. So I feel the same way. I feel "full" now and can push away from the thread table. Poorer though. But this will last me. Ahhh.

  17. Thread is so PRETTY! And pricey too, when you have to buy the premium brands. Good thing your machine has been properly broken in. LOVE that you "inherited" grandma's thread...I have a tin of buttons that belonged to my grandma. Such a treasure!

  18. I definitely don't have 39,000 yards on hand...perhaps that's a great reason to stock up!!! Love your grandmother's threads!

  19. Oh do I hear you Des about that expensive stuff - not for this gal anymore! I love that you have some of your grammas thread - I do as well - some of it is from the 30's! It isn't usable any longer but I can't bear to throw out those wonderful wooden spools!
    Cheers!

  20. I am seriously laughing right now because I didn't even know that an $8 spool of thread existed, and I don't think I could ever bring myself to spend that much on thread - that is money for a good yard of fabric!
