The Love Affair is Over

It's over.
Levi and I are done.
I really thought I was going to change the world one denim quilt at a time.

Really.

I had piles of pants ready to cut.

I started this Swoon quilt, and every center star was going to be from my denim stash with the different reds around the outside.
It was going to be magical.

I got one square done out of our old Levis and said, that's enough.
And so it all sat for a few years.
Denim is a huge pain to me.
My poor sewing machine was not happy.
I was not happy.

Here is my one lone blue block.

But along came a picnic blog hop, and I so wanted to get this done!
Because we need a picnic blanket!

I made the one block work with the rest.
I looooove that it's done.

So why did I do another Levi quilt?
I'll save it for another day.

I mean it this time (well, after the latest one).
Levi, we're done!

  1. that center square is really gorgeous. sewing denim pieces together is annoying. i just sew them next to a quilting cotton. and am happy with that.

  7. They are awesome! I have over 200 pair of jeans, I have intentions of making rag quilts for family members but my family isn't THAT big! I have actually given away about 100 pair.

  8. It is difficult to sew with, but your Swoon looks awesome.

  9. They look great Corrie - even with one lone Levi block. I hear you on the "unhappy machine" though. That is never any fun!

  10. They are both beautiful, but I know what you mean about denim. You sure did a wonderful job making that denim star the focal point!

  12. As much of a pain in the neck denim is to sew the results can be worth it, it is really gorgeous with those reds and whites. You've done a great job on them.

  13. What a hoot! I thought...why would anyone put it out there in such a public way that you and Levi were done? I'm still roflol (rolling on floor laughing out loud!!). Love what you did with the denim. Tell us more about what difficulties the denim presented. :)

  16. Haha, Corrie - These quilts are the best! I really loved your picnic quilt, but now that I know the rest of the story, it makes me love it more. I also have a love/hate relationship with denim, and don't see any sense in making quilts with denim squares, so your swoon is just a perfect idea, especially with the pocket in the middle! Your churn dash is also great! I think I love denim more when I sew it with the right machine. I've found that my Bernina will dig through anything with no problem! Denim, 8 layers of upholstery fabrics for bags, all just glide through. I have a BabyLock that wimps out even over the slightest seam allowance. Brother, Janome, same thing. Bernina wins.

  17. You're toooo funny! I LOVE LOVE LOVE these quilts. That center block on swoon is GORGEOUS!!! I have tons of levis too, so I'm disheartened to hear that your love affair is over. I haven't even started mine yet LOL!

  19. I love both quilts. A. Lot. I agree with Deonn, that maybe a different machine would make a difference. But I also believe that life's too short to do stuff you don't really want to do. Thanks for sharing. I'm going to put both in my file of stuff I'd like to make when I get "round to it".
