For several years, the Material Girls group
has made and donated a quilt for a local cancer auction.
I was ready & willing to try it
because....
Lori cut & gave us all of the white pieces.
The group swapped all of the pink wedges. And she showed us step by step how to do it!
Comfortstitching shows you step by step too
but Lori used Tombow glue, (which we now have available) not pins.
I want to be just like her,
so had to use the same glue,
even though I'm sure I have
fabric glue somewhere.
Just glue right at the edge & press with your fingers &then just a little with your iron & it sticks.
No bunching, no pins, it magically
stays together super smooth to sew.
I've used glue sticks before but not on curves,
didn't know it was this easy.
Look what they created last year for the auction.
Rachel makes sure this happens each year.
She did the quilting on this one
and attends the auctions.

Look at the back!
Do you use glue?
I've used glue sticks before (just the back to school sale ones) but I've always been sure not to iron over it...
ReplyDeletethis I may have to try...
Oh my how beautiful!! I am too new to quilting to even comment on the glue but it looks like something I should try :)
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing this tip. I will use it on curves from now on.
ReplyDeleteI never have but I am thinking I might just start. Those are beautiful blocks. The glue makes it look so easy!
ReplyDeleteWonderful projects and fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI use glue on some things, it depends on what i am doing.
Debbie
I've never used glue, but if it makes a pickle dish that easy...well gosh darn it I might give it a try!
ReplyDeleteI've never used glue. I LOVE the block. It'll look super!
ReplyDeleteWOW that is a pretty block and who knew glue would make those curves so easy!
ReplyDeleteI do use glue on my bindings - I stock up at Back To School time on Washable Elmer's Glue.
Beautiful block and wonderful tips from you experienced quilters!
ReplyDeletewhat a tip! i love this idea. thanks! your blocks are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love the QUILTS!!! I want to come join Material Girls . . . looks like y'all have a lot of fun.
ReplyDelete:-O
ReplyDeleteAMAZING!
If I ever make the time to sew again, I am definitely going to try this. Thanks!
Good job on your pickle dish block! Yes, glue is a good thing!
ReplyDeleteYes I do use glue, Elmer's School glue, for my bindings. Will have to try it on curves. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Does the glue gunk up your needles or machine? I've never used glue.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh what a great tip!!! I am going to try it. It doesn't make tucks? VERY cool!
ReplyDeleteBrillant! I don't like using glue on anything, but on sewing curves this sounds perfect. One of my goals is to learn to do curved piecing. Thanks so much for sharing this tip!
ReplyDeleteNever used glue in piecing. Sounds like something to try! Beautiful block...I think I may need to put the Pickle Dish on my to do list.
ReplyDeleteWay back my girlfriend's mom worked for Martingale and she shared with me the use of a gluestick for the first time. I've loved it ever since! Your quilts are darling!!
ReplyDeleteNever even knew that glue existed! But I hate to pin, so may try it!
ReplyDeleteI've not used glue but will sure give it a try. I love the "liberated" basket quilt you did last year!
ReplyDeleteI love the block and the quilt from last year! Lovely! I have not used glue before sewing, but I'm wondering does it gum up your machine if you use it often? Maybe it depends on the type of glue?
ReplyDeleteThe block & quilt are just lovely!
ReplyDeleteIf you put the glue right on the edge, technically you wouldn't sew over it, because you are 1/4" in, but I know I did. Didn't have any problem with my machine. The glue is water-soluable.
ReplyDeleteSo many thoughts from reading your post. First, the pinks rock! And glue.. it seems so genius! I want to try curved piecing and haven't gotten up the guts to do it yet, but that glue trick may be just what I needed to put it back on the soon list. You do amazing work and the purse quilt is incredible too!
ReplyDeleteI want to turn back the clock and then stop my world. I wish I could have been there. I'm dying to learn how to use the glue to make this. It looks kind of like I could do it. I love love love this quilt. I feel sad that everyone is making it and not me! When we meet tell me more about it if we have a moment.
ReplyDeleteyour pink block..oh my goodness...I love that...I don;t know if I would be ready for that yet...sew I will sit here and watch this quilt grow....wow honey...and the purse quilt...well all I can say is lady love's it.... what a delightful cause...first I ever heard of this...
ReplyDeleteYour block ... and Lori, of course, is BRILLIANT! I'm definitely going to have to dig out the purchased, but not used, fabric glue stick (what can I say, it was a quilty-tool must have at some point--lol) Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. It makes so much sense.
ReplyDeleteYea Corrie, I'm so glad your block (and the glue) worked out so well! I can't wait to see the whole thing put together. Happy sewing!
ReplyDeleteI have used glue before, but like you I didn't use it on my sewing pieces. I have got to try that!
ReplyDeletegenius! oh dear... another thing to try! but Yay! too :)
ReplyDeleteLovely blocks and awesome auction quilt
Your quilt block is gorgeous and what a great tip! I do use a gluestick for my hand applique projects and I also glue the binding down on my quilts, then iron it down. It stays put while I hand sew the binding on. Works like a charm. The purse quilt is wonderful!
