Circular

Here's a quick and easy tutorial I found on Pinterest
Circular items usually intimidate me.

However, with my new Circular Toy......
I was inspired to give it a try!

I made the large size.
I used home dec weight fabric.

I used a lightweight interfacing because that's what I had on hand.
Next time I will try a heavy interfacing.
I love storing my yarn in it.

This was so fast and easy!!
Ashley did a great job with this tutorial.
I see many more in my future!

A few spots left for our 2015 Retreat!
We'd love to have you!

Getting Ready for the 4th - Pinterest Reviews

I am here for you this 4th of July.
Well, me and Pinterest.
Pinterest and I.
We are here for you.

I've been practicing my cooking skills for entertaining this next week.
I've found some perfect recipes!

First up, a great video from Everyday Food.
Made this Pulled Pork and I will never go back
to boring sweet pulled pork.
I loved the spice and the non-sweetness of this sauce.
Took a little babysitting with the basting.
But it was worth it. I'm not quite sure I understand the purpose of basting, yet.
But I like to follow directions.
I'm very obedient, that way.

It's strawberry season so this salad hits the spot.

Apple Tortellini Salad
I didn't even have to go to the store to get the ingredients!
You know that's a keeper!
Loved the fresh apple vinaigrette.
It doesn't look like there is very much dressing,
but it totally covered the salad.

I've never made a cake from scratch, until NOW!
Doesn't that just scream summer?
It was perfect.  I've even made it TWICE now.

Tried these cookies today.
I just feel so American making and eating these.
Sugary and Root Beer-y.
They're a soft, chewy cookie with a subtle
Root Beer flavor!!

Happy Entertaining and Celebrating!!

I made a tie....and other Pinteresting things

I never thought "I made a tie" would be part of my vocabulary.
I thought tie making was for Halloween costumes
or if your husband really liked John Deere.
I once saw a man with a John Deere (tractors) tie at church.  His wife made it. It was super sweet.

Wanted to try making a tie and I saw this claim on Pinterest.
"Best Men's Tie Pattern" or something like that.
Well, I can testify that it is the Best Men's Tie Pattern
Plus, you have to love the name
Puking Pastilles, right Harry Potter fans??

Who thinks of making ties for their loved one??
That's kind of crazy right?
Well, call me loco.

I made it out of cotton fabric.  Lightweight interfacing.
And Kona cotton for the lining.
3 pattern pieces.
Just print them out on your computer and tape together.
Easy, easy.  Not scary.  Great instructions.

Look at my little tabs.  How cute.
You do need to have some hand sewing skills for the back.

But just follow my little tutorial here for invisible stitching.
You. Can. Do. It.

I don't know if your loved one will wear it, but.....
mine does!!  My husband wears a lot of ties.
He has worn the blue one so many times.

The orange plaid is for my son for his birthday.
I overheard him telling his dad what a cool tie he had.
Music to my ears.
Happy Birthday son!!

A few Tie Tips if using this pattern:
*I love that I can use my rotary cutter to cut the whole thing out.
Straight lines all the way.

*In order to do that, however, you need to use flat head pins.

*Pattern calls for 5/8 yard for tie fabric and the same for lining.
That is cutting it WAY too close for me.
I think you need at least 3/4 yard.  Plus if you lay your pattern pieces out like I do,

you can actually get 2 ties for every 3/4 yard of fabric.
Not that you need 2 ties of the same fabric, but you just have more fabric leftover for DOLLIES!!
*Finally, I found it best to cut out the lining and the main fabric at the same time.
In fact, I've even cut out 4 layers at a time, 2 linings, 2 main fabrics.

My next Pinterest attempt was from the Sweet category.
These truffles look so good.

And Our Best Bites has never let me down.
EXCEPT, I made them with almond bark which tasted super fake-y and yucky to me.
I didn't love the cookie dough either.
But every single person at the party
 did love them all.
All cookie truffles were downed.
So not a failure and saved me many calories.
I'd really like to try these next with good chocolate to dip in.

And my last Pinterest love is this.....

It makes me so happy.
Let's all buy one for our walls.
Harry and Luke is probably my favorite category!!

Pinterest Reviews

My girlfriend recently did a post reviewing
some things she had tried on Pinterest.
Since I'd like to be Meagan in my next life,
I'll just start acting like her now.

Applesauce Cookies with Caramel Frosting:  Love these very much.  However, we have not been able to get ours to look like this picture.  Ours are much darker.  Is it because of the vanilla? Anyway, the taste is great.  And coming from a chocolate chip cookie fiend, that's saying something for a new cookie!

Fell in love with the picture.
Craved mint all night.
Requested hubby to make.
Made.
Way to rich for me.
Like, not in a good way.
Just too much.

Under the category of
"I'm so doing this"
Sending candy boxes through the mail.

Oh, how I wish I would have known this when my
missionary boy was out.
But he'll just have to deal with getting these in college!
Totally worked!!
Mailman thought it was a little odd.
He needs more excitement in his life.
I also thought this would be an
inexpensive way to
remember birthdays.
Brought me great joy putting the mailing labels on.
This is a total keeper.
Company worthy.

I did not like using the cornstarch at the end to thicken.
Tried it again without, and liked it much better for me.
Oh, it's so perfect for spring time Idaho weather!!

And under "Top Secret Gift Giving List"
this was a must for my husband's Birthday!
Perfect in a Principals office.
If you find a print you like you can put it on several items.
You can pick your size. Framed or unframed.
Want it on a t-shirt?
Not a problem.
Prices were decent and shipping was timely.
He loved it.
