Neighborly Elves

Every year,
I try to think of something non-edible for
little neighbor Christmas gifts.
Not sure why,
probably because if it's food,
I eat all of the mistakes.

Well, this year,
they are getting food!
Oreos
Red Oreos!

No baking,
no gaining 5 pounds,
no messy pans or smoky ovens.

One foot, became two,
which became four.

Which became 20.

I need to stop playing with them
and give them out.
I'm becoming attached.

If you would like to make some.
You will need:
Winter Red Oreos
Ribbon
Scrapbook paper for shoe collar
Green posterboard
Elf Shoe Template
(email me if the link isn't working)

little jingle bells
Hole punches
Double sided Scotch tape
Clear cellophane
Skinny thread to tie on bells

These are the supplies needed, how to make a similar
shoe treat is in this Oreo Tutorial post.

I'm putting these details for me and you,
so I won't forget and know where to find this.
Posterboard -- you can get 15 feet per posterboard.
There are about 34 Oreos in these Winter packages.
8 Oreos per foot
Cut cellophane 7"x11"

Have yoursELF
Merry little Christmas!

  21. These are adorable and will make great favors. How do you keep the sleeve of cookies from falling out of the bottom of the shoe? Do you have any 'sole' on the shoe? Thanks so much! Love your blog!

    1. Did a little tutorial on making a similar treat.
      http://www.quilttaffy.blogspot.com/2012/12/oreo-tutorial-ruby-slipper.html

The cookies don't fall out the bottom, due to the tape holding them there. There's no sole.

  38. Thanks for the tutorial. If people are still concerned about the cookies falling through - just cut a small rectangular piece of the green construction paper, fold up both ends (short side) and tape to the inside of the shoe before you put in the cookies. Whala

  40. About how long do you think the cookies will stay fresh? I have a weeks vacation over Thanksgiving and would love to make these for all of my coworkers while I have time. Would the cookies be stale by Christmas?

    1. I think the cookies would be fine. I just opened an elf foot that I saved left over from last year, took a bite, you know, it wasn't that bad.
