What do you think the story is about?? What do you think Mr. Snitzel does with his cookies? This story is about being down on your luck, kindhearted goodness, greed (you have to have that to make it an interesting read), and wishes come true. Mr. Snitzel is, of course, our hero. He is kind and wants to make cookies for all the children. Mr. & Mrs. Manypenny are the greedy ones. How could you guess? They don't want to help the 'shabby tramp' who comes through town with his 'thin shabby dog'. Well, won't they be sad to find out that Mr.
Shabby Tramp is all about wishes. Mr. & Mrs. Manypenny end up getting their hearts desire.I'm the girl who totally judges a book by it's cover. And I had already judged this one a winner just by the blue color and red striped pants BUT I was so pleasantly surprised by the feel good message, as well.
I love you, Mr. Snitzel. I love you hubby.

What a cute little book. I would love to collect old kids books, but I already have enough stuff that I collect...:)
ReplyDeleteVintage children's books are so great! I love the colors and the simplicity of the drawings. I like how everyone is HAPPY :)! (and no one has a cell phone or an ipod!).
ReplyDeleteHope you find the perfect spot for it!
Another book lover here. That book looks sweet! I love the illustrations. I recently bought two copies of NURSE NANCY. They were NEW editions (Litte Golden Press I think) but the book and illustrations were exactly like the book that dd and I had as children. She got one of them for her birthday. :D

What a great little book! I have a book that was my husbands when he was a toddler. It has the same kind of vintage look to it. I love great finds! You have trained your hubby well. He know's what you like.

ReplyDeleteWhat a total delight! I love anything vintage but vintage children's books are incredible.
ReplyDeleteI wish Mr Snitzel would come to my house and bake cookies, what a treasure. You are lucky to have Mr Snitzel... enjoy...and as you know lucky to have a good hubby.
ReplyDeleteOh, that book is so fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I just found your blog from your ebay store (thank you for having the American Jane charms!)You'll hear more from me in both spots to be sure. Oh and the book is just too cute!
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure! Does it list the illustrator? I'm a huge fan of vintage little golden books, and this is very similar.
ReplyDeleteYou need to keep that husband of yours!
Illustrator.....looking...looking..All it says is "by Jane Flory" copyright MCML (i flunked roman numberals) It's a Rand McNally Book-elf Junior. They probably had 'in-house' illustrators??? guessing.
ReplyDeleteI have a little blog that is about Jane Flory. She was a friend and after she passed away, I wanted to have a place where people could see her work.

Enjoy !
Mr. Schnitzel's Cookies was one of MY favorite books as a child, too. My mother painted a wooden plate with Mr. Schnitzel & some of his cookies & I have it hanging in my kitchen. Still love it! I do have the book somewhere, not real easy to find most days! Just as I passed it now, I wondered about the illustrator & wondered if I could find out on line. Glad to see your blog & the info. Will look around for the book!
