Toys R Us - Homestyle

I'm really fortunate to be able to work on a project at Church to help our community through the year.
This year we decided to get a head start on Christmas.
We challenged our wonderful ladies to make or buy a doll or toy this year.

Our community has an organization set up to help over 100 local agencies.  It's serviced through churches and volunteers from all over.  So far we've collected over 40 soft toys and dolls.  You might recognize a kitty or some monkeys!

We had a work day where women came and helped tie quilts and make wooden puzzles and matching games.  It was fun to see little kids eying the toys on the table.  Every once in while you'd see a little one wandering around with a doll or two.

These puzzles are two sided.
I just scanned a bunch of Golden Book pages that I thought would be interesting for little kids.

Bought the wood cut and ready to go.
I love Craft Parts

These matching games are the
brain child of Caravan Shoppe.
Their illustrations are so darling.
Materials:  2" circles from Craft Parts
Hard Coat Mod Podge
Olliblocks Matching Set

Many of these items will be filling Salvation Army stockings and numerous agencies in need for children's toys.

It's only May....I can't wait to see what else comes in to help fill the shelves for Christmas.

Here Kitty Kitty

I'm in a Kitten Making Mood.
AND I don't even like cats!

But they're so cute in fabric.
No hairballs.
No rubbing against your leg.
Just a soft pretend purr is all I need.

She just needs a face and she's ready to play.

Orange ya glad I found you??!!

I have such a bad habit of losing things.
(I'm currently wearing glasses that are
3 prescriptions ago because
I can't find the current pair.)
This time it was really bad.

I received these blocks,
lovingly donated to do.good.stitches.

It was a great little project for a retreat.
"I'll just put these blocks in my bag to square up
when I need a break from the sewing."
Squared them up in 2012?  ugh.

Came home and couldn't find them....anywhere.
I was SURE that I had mistakenly thrown them away.
So distressed!

But joy came in 2014!
They were in a bag of crochet goodness
that I obviously hadn't looked at since 2012.

I'm so sorry to my fellow do good-ers!!

BUT it's done and I love it!!
It's already been donated to a
local charity for a cute, little baby bundle.

Stats:  Pattern idea here.
Each participant was asked to make a 9 1/2" block
out of red/orange squares and any solid gray color.
Size:  36" x 45"

Come Retreat with us this fall!!
Still openings for session one!

A Girl After My Own Heart.....

.....literally.
My daughter has always loved serving other people.
So when it came time to put together a project for her
FCCLA club at school....a chapter
service project is what
appealed to her.

It's a 3 part plan.
The first thing she did was organize
thank you notes to servicemen through

She collected over 400 notes.
They were so sweet from kids grades 5 - 12.

She wanted to focus on teen girls for her second project.
Teenagers are hard to buy for at Christmas time
and often become overlooked.
So with the help of her FCCLA
group they made t-shirt fashion scarves
for several different agencies to pass out in
stockings or give to families for Christmas.

They turned out so cute and we had the
rewarding experience of giving them out yesterday.
They will be used to fill Angel Tree requests and help
Grandparents raising Grandchildren.

I can't think of a better activity to work on with my daughter at this time of year.

The Herd is Loose

Feel the ground shake beneath your feet?

The herd is loose.

Made these cute giraffes,
dinosaurs,

horses and
zebras.

Sixty-seven of them!!!

A little church project.
These will go in newborn kits and

some may even find their way to
Tanzania!!

Pattern from Lotta Jansdotter's book:
Simple Sewing for Baby.

I made mine shorter and added rick rack and other trims.

Joann's had some great dinosaur corduroy!

I'm only here to serve.......
.....one baby at a time.
Which one is your favorite?

Butterflies

 Another do.good Stitches quilt.

I was the quilter for March, which means I pick the project, sew it together and quilt it.
I have been eying these butterflies for a few years and I was so excited to finally try them out.
Great tutorial here

Didn't want a square baby quilt so I decided to add borders to just the top and bottom.  And then I'm a sucker for a nice scalloped edge.
Here's how I do it.

This quilt will be given to our local community humanitarian center that serves all the churches and agencies in our corner of Idaho.

Thank you to all the good ladies of the
FAITH circle on Do. Good. Stitches.
Here's a peak at some of the
finished quilts from this Flickr bee.

Instructions HERE~

Time to report my good works.
Nothing like tooting your own horn!
Pass the trombone.
I love my Do. Good Stitches group on Flickr.
Just makes me happy to do a little surprise block each month.
I was in charge last October and picked a raggy bullseye block.
Pretty much a no brainer.
Cut out circles, sew on raw edges.
Then I quartered each one
and sewed them into this diagonal design.
This one had to sit and stew for a while.
Initially, after receiving all the blocks I was not crazy about my color choices for the group.
But it simmered for a few months and came out looking groovy and great for a little boy!
Instructions here.

These gray blocks are going to be stunning in their quilt when finished!
Instructions here.

If you haven't joined the Granny Block invasion
it's not too late.
Fun to make.
Instructions here.

I'm in charge again for March's block
and I've been loving these butterflies for a while.
Can't wait to see them all together.
Instructions here.

So there is my horn blowing for the day!
