New Vintage Baby on the Block ~ GiveawayWinner

UPDATE: Close but not close enough for 2 kits. :( #3 Janae' is the winner. Please send ME your mailing address. I will hold it close to my heart and try to hold down the fort whilst Corrie Dawn is off deserting her familyenjoying a little time off. Congratulations and We'll see you next Thursday for another giveaway.

I am off to play with Mickey with my girlfriends. Happy Belated Birthday to ME! So we thought the Thursday giveaway could be a little more grand. No, it's not a trip. Sorry. Next best thing -- a quilt kit! I'll miss you. If you have any questions, just ask Des -- she's not bitter.

If we get over 100 comments on this giveaway, I'll give away two kits! Tell your friends. No, you can't comment twice, nice try. Come on, we almost got there earlier!

A new member of the Vintage Baby Quilt Kits has arrived! This is a great pattern by Marlene Miller of Yoyo Mama Designs. I wanted another boy kit, so Marlene actually agreed to make this one! Thank you. She is the best!

This one features silky wovens from Moda. The kit includes the pattern, muslin top, 5" squares that you then quarter and the binding.

Another recent member of the family is Dinosaur Uproar. We have a couple of cozy flannels to go on the back of it.

Perhaps you're looking for something to make for a little girl -- Butterfly Fling.

Check the kits out in the store. There are two more sisters waiting there -- sweet pastels. This quilt makes such a great gift & gets rave reviews at baby showers. Des made one for a new mom but couldn't attend the shower (the quilt went). She had people coming to her for a week asking about it. I like it because once you've sewn all of the squares on, it is almost done.

~Giveaway Time~
Today's prize is the Poetry Collection Vintage Baby Kit.

You'll receive: the pattern, muslin for quilt top, 13 assorted strips from Moda's Poetry Collection ; and the binding is the yellow floral shown below.

You will need to provide a flat batting, like Warm & Natural and the backing material - you need 1 1/4 yard.

Leave a comment in regards to Baby Showers. Games or No Games? Tasting Baby Food? Diapering Dollies? I tried to avoid them like the plague so I don't have too many examples of Games Gone Bad.

Random Drawing Tonight.

International Entries will win the Pattern.

  1. I like a couple tasteful games but please don't dress up anyone in a diaper! And tasting baby food is just nasty. I've seen diapering dollies but think that diapering balloons with safety pins and cloth diapers is more fun. And by the way - GREAT GIVEAWAY!!!

  2. Love the giveaway and I LOVE this pattern! I bought the pattern from you ages ago, still in my TO DO pile, using POSH (I think). A kit would be awesome!!!
Someday when I am finished unpacking....sigh.
I need to catch up with Quilt Taffy!
Have fun at Disneyland---man I love that place :D

  3. So don't count me twice...but I forgot to comment on BABY SHOWERS!
Haven't been to many in recent years. One last year, it was fun. I had made a WOOLIES Flannel rag quilt and it got a lot of attention.

  5. Baby showers are rather uncommon here in Germany. So I can't give any exsamples for games or mishaps. I've seen those cakes made of diapers and I'm still waiting for a friend to get a baby so I can make one of those cakes...

  7. I went to a baby shower where the host had put different flavoured melted chocolate in disposable nappies (looking just like baby poop), & we had to guess what the flavours were - gross!

  8. What a beautiful quilt! Thanks for a wonderful giveaway! I'm not a big fan of baby shower games. I've been to showers with both the tasting of the baby food and the guessing of the melted chocolate bars in diapers. Yuck to both! :-)

  9. love this pattern. it looks so beautiful made up in the "boy" colors. hmmm. my fav game at a baby shower was making a list of presents we thought she would get. it started as soon as got there. as the game paper was part of the place setting.

  10. I would love to be in the drawing. As far as baby shower games, I never had them at my showers, but recently some friends did one with the baby food tasting and the chocolate in the diaper. Yuck!

  11. Baby Showers-- the cutest thing is decorating an xmas tree with Baby stuff. The Mom keeps the stuff in the end. Hanging travel lotions, powder, tiny t-shirts... Even Baby's first Christmas ornaments would be fun...Count me in for the drawing....

  12. I must say I don't like the games. I think they are all a little silly. BUT...I sure would love to win that beautiful quilt kit! valerieann118atmsndotcom

  14. I love these patterns! We have two grandbabies due in the next two months...a quilt kit would come in handy!

As for the shower games...skip them and just eat cake and open presents!

  15. I LOVE baby showers--I am hoping to go to another one soon (hint hint) for my son and his wife who were married two years ago. I love this giveaway--I want it so bad!!!P-L-E-A-S-E!!!

  16. What a lovely quilt. I would love to win the kit.
Shower games...a funny one (if mom agrees) is to have guest guess how many toilet paper squares it would take to go around the moms belly. The guests tear off that amount, when every one is done they take turns wrapping the tp around mom (or mom could do it) the one closest wins. lol

  17. We have very short showers at our church now a days and don't play any games at all. It may sound terrible, but in this busy age people just don't seem to have much time for showers and so I think we forgo the games so we can get through with the shower sooner. We like to eat cake, drink punch, and talk and then of course see what all goodies the mama gets for the baby.
    Love your giveaway!
    Have a Blessed Day,
    Diane

  18. When I gave my sister a baby shower
I got little cake candles and put them in a little glass tube. As we were ready to eat the cake everyone lit a candle and placed it on the cake and as we did this we said a blessing for the baby. On her first birthday people that were at the shower placed that same candle on her first birthday cake. It was very moving.

And by the way the quilts are beautiful. My Grandmother used to make quilts. She has since passed away and I wish I had learned to quilt from her. I recently really thought about trying to learn how to do this for my children and future generations. It is a great thing to pass down through the generations.

  19. I really, really sew want to win this. I want to attempt my first official quilt and this would help me out!
    I LOVE baby showers!
My favorite games are guess baby's b-day, weight, gender...
Baby trivia, Baby Bingo, guzzle the bottle the fastest.
Please no more tasting the baby food though.

  20. I am SO PAST the age of baby showers....LOL Oh wait, my niece just announced another pregnancy...

The best game I ever heard of was little plastic babies frozen into ice cubes. Who ever "broke their water" first won....

    ReplyDelete
  21. I would love to win that kit! One of the cutest things I've seen at ababy shower was a few years ago. The hostess made tiny little flannel diapers (pink or blue)and had everyone pin them on their blouse as they came in the door. Later she asked us all to take them off our blouse, unpin them and look inside. One of the bitty diapers was a dirty diaper (dot of mustard) and whoever got the dirty diaper won a prize. Cute! without a lot of effort.

  22. I do not like baby shower games. I guess if I like to play one it would be the mixed up letters one. Linda Gerig

  23. NO GAMES!!!! The only thing that should be done at a baby shower, IMO, is to eat and open gifts and visit! Anyways, great giveaway!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Love those pastel fabrics in the giveaway. No games is my vote for the shower.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I love that poetry collection. I don't really like games at showers. And tasting baby food? Ick!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I have a friend who is incredibly body-conscious and at her baby shower they did the measure-the-belly game! I was horrified and wanted to jump up, grab her, and run out of the building. She took it well but that was definitely the worst example I've seen. YIKES!!!
This giveaway is fantastic... fingers crossed! Thanks so much!

    ReplyDelete
  27. how about the guess what kind of candy bar was melted in a diaper, that is a fun one....grown women smelling diapers trying to figure out if the mess is a melted milky way, kit kat, snickers, the chunkier the better, you get the idea!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh my head! I need this! I adore this! And yes you should always have fun and games at a baby shower. It is a celebration after all!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Kits for boys - yay!

I'm not much into shower games at all. I guess I like ones that include baby anagrams or remembering what was on a tray of stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The funnest "shower" I've been to was a tea party to show off the new little one. Everyone came dressed up in beads and dresses. We had a light luncheon. Great giveaway. Please include me.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh...I LOVE IT! Please pick me!!!
;-) I think games are kinda fun at baby showers. (I'm opting out this time around and am just going out to dinner with a bunch of friends instead!) The worst game I think is having to chew a piece of gum and having to make a little baby from it. It's quite gross. Definitely NOT my fav.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That quilt kit makes me swoon with happiness! I love it that much!

Most of the baby showers I've been to are "open house" style where the guests can come and go anytime during the shower time - and the new mom opens the gifts as guests bring them. No games and simple buffet style refreshments if the guests want to eat and everyone just visits.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Please count me in...such a fantastic giveaway! Hope you have a wonderful time with Mickey :o)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I would choose just visiting. The games have gotten a bit old for most of us.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am not a big fan of games at any kind of shower. Or Tupperware parties...or home dec parties...or parties of any kind. I'm an introvert who cringes when the silly games come round!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Beautiful quilt!! We have been planning a shower and looking for ideas so all these comments are helpful. I think one quick game is good..just to have fun.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Have a safe trip and be sure to have some fun for me! Baby showers...haven't been to one in eons. I didn't even have one myself. But I would say something with some dignity. :D I'm not in to embarresing myself. :) I LOVE the new boy quilt. Beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Baby shower games - I've actually only ever been to a couple, but the best game that was played was the name the TV kids...so like, name all of the Brady bunch kids, Cosby kids, etc. That way, I think you can engage those that don't have kids yet (like me!), and still keep it someone related - baby names!

Are you really going to Dland? Have fun, its a super nice day today!

  39. Ah baby shower's! Not my absolute favorite thing but it is fun to give presents to the new mother and baby. What an awesome giveaway! You guys rock!

  41. Oh.my.gosh. I LOVE those blankets!! I hosted a baby shower earlier this year and didn't do games. I don't really like them. This past weekend I went to a baby shower where they did play games. Tasting baby food is just plain gross. I can't believe my daughter ate that stuff!! I think that the grossest game is the candy bar in the diaper game. Ever played that one?

    Enjoy Disney!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I do like some of the baby shower games but some of the games can go dull and the poopy diapers are just a bit tooo much...This is my first time and I love the giveaway!!! Fingers are crossed!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I come from a big family. Many of our baby showers were open houses--lots of food, laughing, and of course the baby blanket secured to the quilting frames and ready to be quilted or tied. Everyone helped. Definitely stitched with love for the new bundle of joy.

  44. I had to comment on the "bad" games. My younger sister in law was expecting her 1st baby and we played this game where you take a string and guess how big around she is. Well, my other sister in law and myself thought we would just measure our own waists and be funny--WELL, big backfire...her belly was smaller than our waists and we were not pregnant. NOW, I hate that game.

  45. The best part of the baby shower is the cake! I also love to see all the cute little clothes.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I like the boy twist on it, that Marlene is so talented!

  47. Nice giveaway!! Poetry fabric is one of my all time favorite collections! NOT a big fan of shower games. The only one I’ve got a kick out of is the “Strange lady with the big purse game”. A lady arrives late, she’s all chatty, and then confused. She doesn’t recognize anyone, she finally figures out she is at the wrong shower. She pretends to be so embarrassed, then proceeds to dump out her enormous purse (lipstick, tampons, PMS medication - you name it) on the floor looking for her shower invite. She finds her invite, realizes she misread the address and then is off to find the other shower. HILARIOUS - if you can get an actress good enough to fool everyone. The game is to see who can remember the most items from her purse.

  48. Games? What games? It's all about the goodies! Or in my case the baby, as we waitedtil after the birth since we weren't finding out the sex.
    That quilt is gorgoues.

  49. This giveaway is just too Lovely!!!
    Love this pattern so much!!

And as per baby shower's NO GAMES PLEASE!!
Let's just be grown ups & enjoy each other's company and spoil the new mom to be! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  50. No games or baby food, just any way to make the mom to be feel special and pampered.
One of these quilts would do that!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Have a great time visiting Mickey, Miss Corrie. I'm sure Desi is not bitter (better bring home a nice momento for her just in case.....). I LOVE the new boy theme Vintage Baby Quilt -- fabulous!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Wow - it's been a long time since I went to a baby shower, but I remember a fun game... Have the mommy-to-be write down her cravings and have her describe them to their guests without saying the name of the food. It will give the baby shower guests a lot of laughs and reminiscing about their own cravings! Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I love this giveaway :-)

I'm not big into shower games but will play along. The baby food tasting one is pretty nasty though.

    ReplyDelete
  54. okay... let's see. I LOVE THIS QUILT!!!! But about baby showers. Hm... I have 4 kids and have been to many. One of my fav's is to have the mom to be see how fast she can drink (juice or water) out of a bottle in 1 minute(everyone guesses before hand how many ounces).. it suprisingly is typically 1 ounce!!! I also have enjoyed the games where you guess what is in the bag (about 15 bags with different baby items in each).

    ReplyDelete
  55. I don't mind the occasional baby shower, I just had a baby and also a shower, and we did play a few games. I threw a shower for my sister as well, and I found that everyone enjoyed the game, although there was no tasting of baby food involved. And I made a quilt for the last shower I went to, they always make a nice baby gift. Love the kit, it's beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Baby showers: no games but I did
attend one where each guest was
given a blank card with a topic on it with their invite
    (teething, gadgets, etc) and we
had to write advice on it. The mom-to-be read them aloud and it was really fun.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think games are a no-no. I like the idea of giving children's books and gifts for mom.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Love the giveaway!! For baby showers I think it is nice to have a couple 'sheet' games for people to do if they please and lots of finger foods.

    ReplyDelete
  59. The games are fun if they don't embarrass anyone. We did a game where we froze little plastic babies in the ice cubes and the person who melted their baby first won a prize. Sounds kind of lame, but it was fun.

    What a fun giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Personally I don't like the games that are usually done, because....well....i'm not the most social! I think that it is funner to just get together, eat and open gifts!! That quilt pattern is adorable!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. New Babies are little miracles!!! Baby showers are great especially for first babies. These new Mom's are always so very much in love with their new little miracles. Games are passee but please keep passing the little ones around so we can admire them! Every new baby needs to have their own special quilt to love and snuggle with!

    ReplyDelete
  62. A game we once played that was hilarious and disgusting....
melt various chocolate bars in newborn diapers....looks like some really nasty bowel movements...then people have to guess what kind of chocolate was used by looking and smelling... it was a fun game.
    Great giveaway!!!

  64. I like games at baby showers as long as they aren't cheesy or LONG. In my opinion, one game is enough. I like quiz games the best. Name the animal's baby, quiz on the mother-to-be. Just nothing too silly.
I am a mom of two boys, so I like the boy quilt, but the others are great too!

  69. Love the kit! It's so nice to have on hand when a baby shower arrives. (I'm going to one this saturday for my niece ....baby boy coming!) My gift is not nearly as cute as the kits are. sigh. Anyhow, I don't love all the games. Last baby shower I attended we had a race to see who could suck water from a bottle the fastest. Not easy! Took WAY too long and all we ended up with was sore cheeks!

  71. I do very well at shower games especially memory ones. I too will be at Disneyland this weekend. We are going Friday, staying at the Sheraton and back to the park on Saturday. Maybe Corrie can wear a quilted jacket with a fat quarter purse and I will spot her in front of the castle. I'll be looking for you!

  73. I don't do baby showers I refused to have one for either of my kids. I don't like bridal showers either. So I guess that makes me a little odd, although I do like giving new moms something for the baby after it is born, or going over to help out for an afternoon while mom catches up on sleep. I do so love the quilts.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I go late just to miss the games. I am not a party pooper but I would rather visit and give a nice gift. Refreshments can be fun and creative. We had punch in baby bottles with the tip of the nipple cut off to fit a straw to make it easier. It was really cute! Love that vintage boy quilt. I want that kit! Have fun Corrie!

  75. Great giveaway!I've made dozens of baby quilts over the years. The strangest color request I ever got was for a "cafe au lait" nursery. For a baby?Oh well,I just threw a little red in to keep the baby from getting bored. You can get away with that kind of thing when you get old!

  81. I just found your blog tonight. Wow! I"m bookmarking this one! Great eye candy! I gotta say that personally I love games at a baby shower or any kind of shower. The one thing that really bugs me though, is when the prizes for the games are things that you have to give to the guest of honor. So lame...

  83. Love this pattern! I have always made baby blankets for gifts and just a couple weeks ago found out it's MY turn to be a Gamma!!! I'm so excited. Have collected lots of baby fabrics and can hardly wait to get started. I am in the middle of our first major blizzard in Wyoming and the electricity is going off and on all day so no sewing done but that can't stop my rotary cutter!! LOL!! I am not good at the games for the baby showers but heard of a funny one...the husbands acutally attended this shower and they had to have a race drinking milk from a baby bottle. The pics were halarious! and the comments like no biting the nipple! made me roar. LOL! Anywho, glad I found you on Pinterest! :)
