High School Baseball season has started here in Southeast Idaho. This is what I'm usually wearing on my head.
Kind of a Jedi thing. Just call me Desi-One-Kanobi. Not very trendy. So letting vanity rule the day....i started on this hat a couple of days ago
so I'd be ready to go for the first freezing cold game of the season.(i had to make my band a little longer. i wanted it to cover my ears. you know what they say about cold ears, right?)
I'm truly excited to sit in my green hat on cold steel bleachers. And now I want to make more hats. More and more hats. With buttons. In different colors and styles.
Me: Do you like my hat?
Son: It's green. Our colors are not green.
Me: It's not like I'm school spirit mom of the year, okay? It's green for the........ Celtics! (total cover up)
Son: somewhat appeased. Are you really going to wear that?
Me: YES. And I'm going to make sure everyone knows I'm YOUR mom. Now, good luck honey. Go get those tigers!!
Son: They're Trojans, Mom.
I wore a hat recently, just to play in the snow outside...my daughter's school closed early and she came home, saw my hat, looked horrified and said 'mummy, what on earth do you have on your head?!'. Silly child, you'd have though she'd never seen someone as stylish and fashion savvy as me before.
ReplyDeleteLove the hat Des!!I hope your son can appreciate the truly clever & amazing Mom he has!!! Happy knitting!
ReplyDeleteGreat hat and love the color. Don't forget to bring those little orange packets that you break open and the heat comes out for hours. Great for hands and feet. You know what they say about cold hands and feet...actually I don't know what they say, but it fit your story!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the game,
~Karen~
I think it's a lovely hat! What do teenage boys know anyway? I have a sweet little baby blue 1971 Volkswagen beetle that is my fun car. My teenage son refuses to ride in it with me cause its "too happy-hippie" What??? How can anything be too happy-hippie? And besides, what good are kids if you can't embarrass them. It's all payback, I say.
ReplyDeleteLove you hat! green is good !! But with your coloring pink would look good, or bright orange, your son and his friends could find your with bright orange. My 13 year old daughter plays softball here in Illinois. I drees in layers an old Girl scout trick and use a bright pink blanket!! I know how you feel, the best is when it is raining just a little and they still play! have fun and the hat is really darling!!
ReplyDeletei love your green hat!! i think it is very stylish, and cool!! and at least your going to be the mom that is nice and toasty warm!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the hat, and the color is superb! Now you just need to embroider: "Greg's Mom" across the front, so there are no doubts about who the lady in the green hat is! ;)
ReplyDeleteCute hat! Now you just have to make something to keep your buns warm on those cold bleachers. You know what they say about cold buns...
ReplyDeleteI love it!! The only thing i can make is a blanket so go Des!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh you are so hilarious!!!!!I miss your humor. We need a quilting-gabbing day. You take care of that won't you. Great job on the hat. Doesn't surprise me that you made it. So creative! Luv ya
ReplyDeleteLove it! I could NEVER pull off green....sigh....
ReplyDeleteYou look wonderful! The hat is adorable.I love the green!
ReplyDeleteI love everything about it! Green-great. Wider brim- fantastic. Button- awesome. It looks so cute on.
ReplyDeleteI think Greg is just jealous. He needs one with a big burly man button. Maybe a plastic one that says "Mother" in a heart, you know the old sailor tattoo kind. That would be great!
cute hat. I don't look good in hats so just cover up in a scarf. Probably don't look good in that either but still wear it. Linda Gerig
ReplyDeleteCUTE hat! I think you need one in the school colors though. You definitely need to make something to sit on and save your buns from the cold bleachers. How about a quilty SLANKET in school colors? Extra batting in the 'bun' area ;)
ReplyDeleteI am so thankful to be done with sports - my kids played a couple seasons of soccer (in north Idaho that can be BRUTAL to sit and watch). Now my son prefers sports that moms don't have to sit on the sidelines and watch (snowboarding, snowmobiling, hiking). I do offer to watch him wakeboard though (and I hold the orange flag too).
I love your green hat! That was a classic response form your son...I could hear me saying the very same thing!
ReplyDeleteDesi-One-Kanobi with an Irish lilt - pretty darling I'd say!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
You look really good in a hat! LOL And I was going to say, get yourself some hand warmers, and I see someone already beat me to it! ;o) ooxx`jod
ReplyDeleteLove the hat, put a smile on my face and brought back many memories of freezing in Missouri while watching my sons play....have fun!! Stay warm!!

ReplyDeletethat is really cute!!! crocheted? i must make one. and the cougars rock.. no matter what their fan club is wearing.
ReplyDeleteYour hat is cute, love the button! I feel like I don't look good in a hat, but I think its just more that I've never been brave enough to wear one. While I love the green, you need one in the school colors, maybe it could be more "out there" just to embarrass your son! I'm thinking long earflaps and more of a stocking cap with a big ball of fringe on it!!! See which he prefers youto wear!
ReplyDeleteI love the hat! It's bright and perky just like you!
ReplyDeleteHow about knitting somthing to keep your bum warm. That'll really get him going!
I like your hat, and I LOVE the green color!
ReplyDeleteAm I allowed to comment twice on one post? I'll live on the edge and try it. I'd love to join your book club. I've tried starting my own by everyone moved out of town... surely not to avoid my club. I made brownies!
ReplyDeleteAnd then maybe I'd see my momma more. That would be very nice. Let me know when you meet and what you're reading and I'll try to come!
What a cool, hip, and trendy mom you are. I LOVE the hat...and you do not seem like mom-of-a-highschooler age yet. Anyone would love you as a mom. My mother in law (who is really young, 50,....my mom is 61), she'd probably do the same thing and wear the bright green. I love that color green. I think it'd be funny though if you did a hat in you son's school colors and added a pompom to the top. Would that embarrass him...maybe? :)
ReplyDeleteI love your hat. I love ALL hats. BUT especially homemade hats. That button makes it stinkin cute. I also loved the replay of your conversation with your son. LOL
ReplyDeleteIt is stinkin snowing here again and I am soooo bummed as it had seemed that spring had arrived. It is suppose to spring!
