Keep It Zipped

I found this tutorial on Crazy Mom Quilts
and just couldn't get enough of them.

They're so handy for soooo many things.

I only thought of THREE things,

but I'm sure you can think of more.

Please do. I need more ideas.

There are only 3 shown here but I probably made close to 12 for Christmas presents and I still want to make 12 more for ME. I tried different sizes and they still worked like a charm.

Look at Me!
I'm not afraid of zippers anymore!

Get started on them now for Mother's Day, Quilter's Day, Friend's Day, My Birthday, My Anniversary, My Bloggyversary.....you name it. There's always something worth making for me.

  1. Those are really cute!! I can see lots of uses for them and maybe the tutorial would get me over my fear of zipper application. I mean I guess I could attempt to make some while I'm waiting and waiting for that jelly roll tutorial. ;)

  2. I HAVE vinyl! I HAVE zippers! I even have some fabric scraps! (big duh there). I am not sure I get what is to be done with the top of the binding. Care to elaborate on that Des??

  3. I'm still afraid of my sewing machine, let alone zippers! Seriously, I recently learned in the slightest degree how to do a straight stitched line and I was over the top about it!! I just need to keep on keepin' on and I'll get good at it.

    Those bags are too cute!

  4. Nice work, Des! I wish these could be used for the TSA's liquid carry-on thing, instead of a ziplock baggie. But I have a feeling having only one side transparent wouldn't be good enough for them. :-P

I need to learn zippers. This might be a good task to pick up that skill.

  8. CJ: The top can be tricky to sew down, but I just get out my trusty needle and use my fingers to tuck everything in nicely and then I follow my "Invisible closing" tutorial on the sidebar.

  9. Such an awesome idea, how did I miss that tut? Your bags are awesome, what wouldn't you put in it?

A little tip for the vinyl challenged like myself. My metal presser feet stick to vinyl when I'm topstitching so if you have that problem put a little scotch tape on the bottom of your foot and exacto knife out the parts that you don't want covered. Glides right over ;).

  17. I made myself a couple of these a few years ago, mine are 12 x 14 inches, and vinyl on both sides. I like to store my stitching projects in them. I use one bag for each project, so I can carry it with me to work, or where ever I go, and I know I will have stitching time....They clean up really nice since I tend to spill food or drink, and I have always carried a project to work on at lunch time. I will try making them like this....
