Rainy Days & Mondays Fabric Giveaway Over

Congrats to Jolynn #71!

"Rainy Days & Mondays....

always get me down"

Isn't that the end of the verse??

Kind of an interesting name for a collection.

Inquiring minds want to know.

"Yes, I googled."

[that's my favorite line from Confessions of a Shopaholic].

Rainy Days & Mondays is by the designers' mom's
"favorite musical duo."

Carpenters

Okay, that I can get on board with.

Now, I've spent way too much time singing & reading about the Carpenters.

They wanted to be known as "Carpenters", not "The Carpenters".
Just so you're informed.

~
"We've Only Just Begun......
to live...."

"I'm on the 'Top of the World'

lookin down on creation
and the only explanation I can find...."

Why do birds suddenly appear...

every time...

you are near....

'Close to You'...

good songs. Try getting them out of your head.

You're welcome.

Rainy Days & Mondays is a new fabric collection

from Riley Blake Designs by Melimba & Beccabury.

Great colors & prints.

5" charm squares are coming.

I'll let you know when they're here.

Today's giveaway is a set of 4 fat quarters from Rainy Days
(available on eBay & etsy).

  1. When I was 19, I bought a Clinique product and their promotion was a Clinique umbrella. I loved that umbrella, but alas, I left it somewhere and that is the end of the story :)

  2. I've lost my oroton umbrella that I bought myself for my birthday last year :( But I do like kerry berry's comment! Very very true.

  3. I lived in terror of umbrellas as a child. Because I was small, I was always told that I'd blow away like Mary Poppins. This scared me silly, so I preferred to get wet instead of carry one.

  4. Umbrellas make me feel free & fun...I guess the twirling them! Funny I love to tote an umbrella. I love the fabrics and thanks for the giveaway chance.

  5. Hmmmm. Umbrellas.... I grew up in perhaps one of the rainiest places on earth, Southeast Alaska, so I should be very familiar with umbrellas, but since it rained all the time, we just wore rain coats and hoods, rarely an umbrella. That said, I love umbrellas especially bright and cheerful ones, especially if they are on luscious fabrics like these. WOW! i love the raindrops and the entire grouping! Thanks for the fun and wonderful opportunity.

  6. I agree with kerry berry,You can't have a cocktail without a little umbrella or those plastic monkey's.

    Thanks.

  8. The first comment is about a Clinique umbrella. I'm pretty sure I got the same one -- silver, had a bag to go with it. Mine broke, but I did love it. That is the last umbrella I have personally owned. I think that was ten years ago. Time to get a new one? You think?

  9. my daughter just had her favorite umbrella out yesterday...no sign of rain, just happy to be outside! its a Totes umbrella...a ladybug with big pop out white eyes...there are so many holes in it she would be soaking wet had it actually been raining. thanks for a chance, these fabrics are delicious.

  10. i always used to change the line of that song and sing it: Rainy days and Mondays always pick me up! I love rainy days, love relaxing Mondays after the weekend, and love bright colorful umbrellas! And I love that rainy day/umbrella fabric--I'd love to win it!

  11. I too received a beautiful mauve umbrella with a makeup promotion years ago.
Brain freeze - can't think of the name. But the handle was a beautiful white swan's head. That was my favourite umbrella.

  12. My kids (2.5 years old) love umbrellas, though they have a hard time pronouncing the word. They especially love to help hold the handle. You can imagine how "helpful" that is. :-)

  13. It's very difficult for me to carry an umbrella while delivering the mail!

OK, umbrellas. We're supposed to get 40" of rain(or so says the Farmer's Almanac). I could use some more umbrellas :) Christine

  15. Yesterday was a good day to have an umbrella in Alabama. We had rain, rain and more rain. It is very cloudy out my window today. I think I shall take an umbrella. I would prefer sunglasses and sunscreen as my daytime "protection"

  16. This morning it is raining here, so it will be a good day to use an umbrella. It is quite a great invention and has been around for quite a long tme ;-)

  26. My husband photo-shopped the coolest picture. We were at the zoo on a rainy day, he took a picture of a girl on a bench with an umbrella. On the photoshop he made the picture black/white and only the umbrella was red, it's awesome.

  27. I used to decorate my Victorian Christmas Tree with mini umbrellas or parasols and people walking would stop and study my tree in the window.

    ReplyDelete
  28. My parents had an eight track tape of The Carpenters (it was pink) I used to make them put it in when we were driving and I would sing sing sing... I grew up in Oregon and never used an umbrella. Did you know that umbrella in Italian is l'ombrello? That's all I got :)

  29. When I was 3, I used to play with the little paper umbrellas when my Mom visited with a friend. She kept them in a drawer along with Dentyne gum and I would always check that drawer each time we went over.

  30. Bus stop, wet day, she's there I say
    Please share my umbrella
Bus stop, bus go, she stays love grows
    Under my umbrella
All that summer we enjoyed it
    Wind and rain and shine
    That umbrella we employed it
    By August she was mine

Every morning I would see her waiting at the stop
Sometimes she'd shop and she would show me what she bought
All the people stared as if we were both quite insane
Someday my name and hers are going to be the same

That's the way the whole thing started
    Silly, but it's true
    Thinking of a sweet romance
    Beginning in a queue
Came the sun, the ice was melting
    No more sheltering, now
Nice to think that that umbrella
    Led me to a vow

    Bus stop, wet day
    She's there I say
    Please share my umbrella
Bus stop, bus go, she stays, love grows
    Under my umbrella
All that summer we enjoyed it
    Wind and rain and shine
    That umbrella we employed it
    By August she was mine
    "Bus Stop" by the Hollies

This is a song that perfectly describes hubby sweets and I when we were in college. He quasi proposed to my by saying "Some day I want my last name to be your last name."

    We were married in August!

  31. It seems that every time I use an umbrella I get soaked trying to take it down before getting in the car! As said before, they're best on a cocktail.

  32. My umbrella is big enough for two people, but it is MINE!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have a picture of my 3 year old daughter, in her panties, with a giant red umbrella, stomping puddles on the sidewalk in front of Grandma's house! The picture is so cute! It made our local paper!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love my umbrella. It's leopard print, and it goes up AND DOWN at the touch of a button. When I'm running around with my two toddler boys, I can't tell you how many times I've been thankful for that DOWN button!

    ReplyDelete
  35. The only umbrella I care to see is in my pina colada at the beach. Hee!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I never have one when I need it...

I also like the little paper ones in the fruity drinks.

I loved the Carpenters when I was younger... I listened to their 8-tracks (!) all the time...

  37. I own several umbrellas but never there when I need them. I found myself running through parking lots in the rain just last Tuesday afternoon.

  38. Ok, been doing this sooooo long, I gotta win this one :) I LOVE them and the Carpentars and umbrellas :) All of my children have "pop up" umberellas because they are simply so cool to watch pop up :) HA! They even bring them in the house and try to sneak the popping up without mom seeing :)

  39. I used to LOVE the Carpenters! I thought I sang just like Karen (yeah - in my dreams!). Their Christmas CD is always the first we listen to each year :)

Umbrellas - mmmm - yes they can turn inside out in a wind storm - it happened to me - at the time I didn't think it was funny! Now I look back on it and it was hilarious! Wish we had cell phone videos back then!!!

    Have a great weekend!

  40. when I was 7 I got a pink umbrella for christmas, it was the only gift I played with. I LOVED IT!

  41. Oh wow, how adorable are these?! I wish my umbrella was this pretty...

As a kid, I was always afraid of closing the umbrellas, I didn't have enough strength to do it, and a few times when I did try it, I ended up scraping my fingers on the little knobby thing at the top. So for the longest time I would just leave it open after I've used it. Oh, and my boyfriend refuses to ever use an umbrella, he thinks it's not manly to hide under one, lol.

  42. I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC capital city of R.A.I.N.
I don't own and don't use an umbrella. People look at me blankly when I say that - there's just too many umbrellas out there and being so tall, I get whacked in the face with all the poker bits of the umbrellas around me. :(

  46. I always leave things I may need in my Suburban; I'm a mom of 7 and I need all the help I can get...so I leave the library books I need to return, snacks & an umbrella. My husbands likes to empty the car. So despite having 6 umbrellas, I rarely ever use them. ~anna

  47. You have to have your rubber boots on when you have umbrellas out. Going to New York City next week. I am trying to find a non girly umbrella for the hubby. He will have a black umbrella (most likely) while I have a bright colored umbrella with my bright, multi-colored plaid rubber boots. There are some things that you just have to love about spring!

  48. My daughter ADORES umbrellas, and has a couple she's gotten out of doting aunts and grandmas. As soon as I say these prints I thought of her and how she needs something out of this fabrics.
She likes her umbrellas so much she started wishing the snow, which she loves, would go away so it could rain and she could get her umbrella out again.

  50. Every time I think about umbrellas I think about doing research in Costa Rica...where I had to take an umbrella everywhere. During my time there, it was always raining! By the end of my stay, I was filthy, and I just couldn't part with my trusty umbrella. So I brought it home with me. I still have it somewhere.

    Great fabric!

  61. Fortunately, we do not have much of a need for umbrellas in So. CA. If I did, I think I would have to buy a really pretty one - like a Monet print or something.

    Love that new fabric line!

  64. I love umbrellas and relish every chance I get to use one. My favorite way to use one is to shade my tropical drink. ;)

I remember being a little girl and watching my dad pass off the umbrella to my mom when a sudden storm kicked up at my brother's baseball game. The umbrella got away from her and went sailing away and he laughed at her as she went on the chase. I remember thinking he was mean and I was scared, but in grown-up retrospect, I'm sure I would have laughed, too.

I love this fabric line! Thanks for the chance to win some of it!

  66. Omgosh, that "on top of the world, looking down on creation" song lyric just zoomed me back in time to my childhood! I have a very strong sense memory of swinging and listening to that song. What's weird is when I looked it up, it was popular when I was 2. Could I have remembered it?

I love when it rains and I actually have an umbrella. It's rare, but very satisfying.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Well I am hoping that the thunder that is booming outside as I type this is "good give-a way" luck...it appears that I will need an umbrella today. Thanks for the chance to win...oh and I love that Dee posted the lyrics to Bus Stop, guess I'll be humming that all day!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Umbrellas and I are not friends. I have had multiple umbrellas flip out on me. Maybe they are all upset with me because I tend to lose them all over the place! I can't count the number of umbrellas I've had! Maybe with this fabric I could get back on their good side.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I bought myself the cutest little polka dot umbrella for Christmas, and I loved it. But sadly it broke soon after (cheap, but not cheap) But living in the desert I don't have too much need of an umbrella, so I guess I'll get over it! I love the rainy days and mondays fabric!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I never remember to carry an umbrella. I love the little paper umbrellas in cocktails (specifically pina coladas!). I hate the Umbrella-ella-ella song.

There! Not one, but 3 umbrella comments!!!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I love the rain, especially in the summer, and hence tend not to bother with umbrellas (something my husband doesn't quite understand!) In college I used to walk around the campus in a good rainstorm all the time and it was always oddly refreshing--something I miss! MD is a bit chillier than NC, though, and I also live in the city now, so good rain-walks aren't as easy to come by.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I have an old faithful umbrella, one I bought in a walmart-type store years ago when it started raining outside. and you know what? It is still going strong! It's one of the big golf-type umbrellas in lots of rainbow colors. Love it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Oh sure, now I'll be singing that song all day. And believe I do not sing well. As I was reading thru other comments one really struck home with me. As Kerry Berry said "Umbrellas-best on a cocktail" . Girl you know how to party! But getting back to my umbrellas, yes plural, because I always lose them! I have paid for so many but ...can never hold onto them.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I remember when I was little I had a pink umbrella with black polka dots. I had a matching rain coat too and would go outside with boots and jump in puddles all day. To this day I still remember how much I loved that umbrella- I wish I still had it for posterity sake!

  79. I always wanted to be one of those people that had a bright red or bright yellow umbrella and raincoat in the sea of boring ole' black ones.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I never have an umbrella when I need one and sometimes my husband asks - if we even own an umbrella, no I don't think so. It must be hereditary because I bought my daughter 3 when she went away to college and none of them came back. And while I am playing true confessions - a big dark secret of my life was that when I was young I loved the Carpenters, I have a satelite radio and when I listen to the 70's station and hear the Carpenters I still know all the words. Very uncool at the time - I've kept that a secret until now.

  81. We LOVE umbrellas in our family. Even though we live in SoCal! Each of our kids HAS to have their own. Whenever it rains we all get on our gear and tromp in the rain with our umbrellas!

    ReplyDelete
  82. I had an umbrella blow inside out on me once when I was walking downtown. Felt like an idiot. Got kind of wet too.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I love a great big, easy to open umbrella. Push the button and its up! Big enough for two people at least. I hate wrestling it into the car while it is pouring, but I am drier than I would be without it!

Why is that here in the South, where we get absolute downpours, people think I am odd to keep an umbrella with me? They'd rather get soaked between car and building! Amazing. Maybe it is the fear of lightning?

    ReplyDelete
  84. We lived in Hawaii for a year. I always carried an umbrella in my car. Everyday somewhere on the island it rained. you didn't want to be caught in the rain. or you are having a bad rain hair day every day. next moved to spokane Wa it rains but not so much so now i don't always carry it but it is still in my car.

    ReplyDelete
  85. when I was a missionary in Brazil, I think I went through about 5 umbrellas because the wind flipped them inside out. Such a bummer too. My favorite one looked like "water lillies"....so pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Funny (or rather frustrating) thing about my umbrella....it's never where I need it to be! If I'm stranded in the car, it's in the house; if I'm in the house, it's in the car.

    ReplyDelete
  87. In my opinion, you can never have too many umbrellas. I leave one in my car, my husbands car, several at home, and I keep one at work. I never want to be caught without one. I have curly hair and any kind of moisture, makes my hair frizz up... not cute!

    ReplyDelete
  88. While I was serving a mission for my church in Germany, EVERY umbrella I bought flipped inside out on me in the wind. Never failed. It finally became a hilarious joke.

LOVE that fabric!! Can't wait to get some.

  91. I would welcome umbrellas to carry instead of snow shovels!

    ReplyDelete
  92. I should start this out by saying, I live in West Texas. Windy West Texas. About 11 years ago, it was really raining here - usually it just spits and you can run from your car to the building. Anyway, it was raining and the wind was blowing and yes, my umbrella turned inside out and broke. I broke 3 umbrellas in 2 days!! It was a bad week for umbrellas.

  93. I think it's funny, I live in Portland, Oregon. It rains here all of the time, but nobody uses umbrellas here. What is the point? haha :D You can tell who really isn't from around here when you see an umbrella.

  94. I have about five! I keep misplacing them, buy another and then find the one I thought was lost. :)

  97. We live in a rainy city and need umbrellas - but they always seem to be misplaced or broken on the rainiest day :P

    ReplyDelete
  98. I LOVE this fabric! I have been waiting for it to hit stores so that I can get some.
In college my roommate and I really liked the "Rainy Days & Mondays" song, except that we both liked the rain, and it never got us down!
I don't like umbrellas, I've always thought that they just get in the way, but if I had one as cute as this fabric I might change my mind.
    Thanks for the great giveaway.

  99. Umbrellas - you would think everyone in Seattle has at LEAST one and uses it daily. Not so. Hardly anyone uses an umbrella. I don't know if they actually own them though. The rain is more of an annoying drizzle and the umbrella is more of a bother than a help.
LOVE the Carpenters. Karen had the coolest voice AND she could play drums and sing. Not that easy to do I am told.
I've been waiting for this fabric line although I have no idea what I am going to do with it. Alas...I am on a fabric fast. It was that or chocolate.

  100. I have about fifteen umbrellas and never have one when or where I need it so to that effect, I agree with kerry berry that the best umbrella is the one on a cocktail. Now, that one I can find! I absolutely love this collection...hugs, Linda

  105. Perfect post for today...it's raining right now, complete with thunder and lightning. I love umbrellas and always carry one in my car, my current umbrella is polka-dotted.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Umbrella's are good in theory but don't work when your hubby is 16 inches taller than you are.

If I hold the umbrella, he gets decapitated...if he holds the umbrella, I still get wet....

now rubber boots...that's a medium I can get behind!

I still like the fabric though :0)

  107. I still get a sinking feeling whenever I hear the word umbrella. One rainy day in 4th grade, I took my little girl umbrella with the duckie handle to school with me. It was raining and it was a long walk to the bus stop. Trouble is, I left duckie at school that day and it was pouring rain again the next morning when it was time to walk to the bus stop. Duckie was at school, I was going to be drenched! That's when my dear, sweet mother offered to let me borrow her very expensive, some name-brand I don't remember now, fancy ruffle around the bottom, grown up lady umbrella. But ONLY IF YOU ARE VERY CAREFUL WITH IT AND DO NOT LET ANYTHING HAPPEN TO IT. okie-dokie, no problem with that. And then the bus came and mean Mark from up the street knocked me down just as I got on the bus, and in all the commotion, the bus driver closed the door with my mother's umbrella halfway in the door. handle bent, torn rufffle umbrella looked pretty pitiful. It was the longest day of my life. She eventually forgave me though. It's even funny now. kind of.

  114. I always thought that the little cocktail umbrella's would be perfect to use with my Barbie dolls! But my parent's weren't drinkers, so I never got to use any of them with my dolls. Do you think they knew they were missing out on such a great little umbrella?!

What a great give-away! I LOVE those fabrics! Hopefully they'll be a popular line and will be plentiful on the internet! For some reason, the quilt shops around here don't seem to carry all these pretty lines of fabrics.

  116. Thanks for the great giveaway. When my husband was 4 he decided to do the May Poppins thing and jump from the roof holding a golf umbrella. Lucky for him he was not hurt. He thinks the umbrella worked and slowed down his fall.

  119. Here is a cute one for you. My 2 year old daughter got a set of plastic golf clubs for Valentine's day from her grandpa, and for some reason she calls one of them an umbrella. She will walk around the house with the 'club' part in the air calling it an umbrella and when she looses it she asks for her umbrella!

I think its so cute. :)

  128. About 2 weeks ago, I discovered this little gem: http://bit.ly/bjgj4x. (It's an umbrella that looks like a ninja sword!) I can't imagine a cooler sword, er, umbrella to have on a rainy day!

  129. Umbrellas humm....does anyone out there get attached to their umbrella. Meaning do you get really sad when the wind blows your umbrella the other way and it's now broken and you have to get another one. But that won't happen if it's on a cocktail.

  130. I'm pretty sure that being a native Seattlite forbids me from using an umbrella. I just never do, and I notice that other natives don't either. I don't know if that makes us hard core or hardly bright...=D

  131. I thought I was too cool ( spell that stupid) to use an umbrella when I was much younger, but now I own at least four. I love them in art work and children's stories. I love them on rainy days, and I love them on fabric!

  140. I haven't owned an umbrella is probably 16 years. However, I did purchase some paper umbrellas (in pink, blue, green, orange, and yellow!!) at Hobby Lobby to use as photography props! :)

  141. My thoughts on umbrellas...I think just toss the umbrella upside down to see how much rain would accumulate...and while you wait, do something fabulous ~ go jump in the puddles with your kiddos! Now doesn't that just sound like a perfectly wonderful rainy day...bring it on!

  142. About umbrellas...I had to use mine today! Not a drop of rain until I had to go pick my son up from school, which almost always calls for standing outside for at least 5 minutes! At least I had one!

Lovely fabric... I would love to win it, but if I don't, at least I know where I can buy it!

  143. When I use my umbrella, I'm always compelled to say, "tut, tut it looks like rain." like Christopher Robin.

Threads Magazine did an article on recovering an umbrella which may be useful to me one day. I've had mine for 20 years of dreary VT rains. I figure the fabric will go eventually, but I'm amazed I've never lost it!

  145. I love pretty umbrellas. Black umbrellas are simply boring. Mine is like a great painting of sweet long green grass with a big blue sky and a few large drops of rain scattered everywhere. It makes me happy to get it out on a rainy day. Plus, it is big enough for two!
