A day that this Missionary Mom
has been looking forward to
for at least 5 months!!
He'll be calling today at FIVE pm!
Missionaries are allowed to call at Christmas and Mother's Day.
How perfect!
My son is currently serving a mission
for our church in Bakersfield, CA.
He loves it.
I love that he loves it!
Best Mother's Day Present Ever!!
If you're in the Bakersfield area,
please check on him for sunscreen and water.
May your Mother's Day be filled
with memories of your mother
and if you are fortunate
enough to be a mother,
a day filled with gratitude.

Your post made me all misty. I can't imagine the excitement you must feel knowing that you get to talk to your son today. My husband served his mission in L.A. and my parents were married there. I always love seeing that temple. Thanks for your post. I hope you enjoy your day.
ReplyDeletePS~I have an aunt in Bakersfield. Shall I have her hunt him down and slather him with sunscreen? ;)
Yes, mignonne, yes!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice post. Wish I could help with the sunscreen Des. I am two hours away in Long Beach, California. Enjoy your phone call.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! enjoy your chat! and Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteI know you will be counting down the minutes. Enjoy your visit.
ReplyDeleteoh happy day! im sure you are bubbling with excitement! happy mothers day!
ReplyDeleteI love those missionary boys. Sigh... I'm excited for you :)
ReplyDeleteThe missionaries said the prayers in sacrament meeting today and I leaned over to my husband and said, "they get to talk to their moms today". We both smiled. I am so happy for you!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day! We are not Mormon (and no where near California, either) but we always try to take care of the missionaries that come our way. They are, for sure, someone's sons and daughters and more importantly, sons and daughters of our heavenly Father. Thank you for sharing your child with the world.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I will also offer them sunscreen (:
How sweet....my son is going to skype me from the West Indies...so enjoy your conversation....
ReplyDeleteI got my schnibbles...thanks so much, I was thrilled to get them.
Have a wonderful day!!
That will be the sweetest Mother's Day gift for you then! I'm so glad they are allowed to call.
ReplyDeleteIt was when I lived in Bakersfield that I worked for the LDS owned company. I wonder if he is in contact with my former bosses! That would be so cool! You can avoid the need for sunscreen if you just stay indoors in the A/C!!!
I got a call from my missionary son today too. It was SO good to hear from him. E-mail is good but hearing their voice is wonderful! This is my last Mother's Day call because he comes home next month
ReplyDelete(39 days - but who's counting?)

Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for you to get to speak to your missionary today. Hope you had a wonderful day.
Aw des, it brings little tears to my eyes. I don't know (yet) how this feels since none of my girls (yet) have gone on missions and my son is 15. But I know someday I will know how this feels.
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful! Happy Mother's Day to you as well :)
ReplyDeleteOhMyGosh! I just found your blog via OutoftheLoopGroup -- and what a fun place you have here. I LOVE that ghastlies fabric -- I must hunt it down for my Edward Gory loving sister! I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day with a call from your son. I lived in Lancaster when I was a little girl -- I'm thinking that might be in your son's mission area?
ReplyDeleteUm, why are they only allowed to talk to their mothers twice per year...?
ReplyDeleteThat's a great question Alisa. Being on the other end of the phone now twice, at Christmas time and this Mother's Day, it is emotional and I imagine distracting for him. I found that I was quite homesick for him after I talked to him. I now understand the wisdom of the guideline. Plus, it really feels like an added present on those 2 wonderful celebrations. We are in contact with him always via mail. He emails once a week and we send emails, letters and packages.
ReplyDeleteHere's to 7 more months!!
Thanks for your thoughtful question.
I hope you had a great phone call. We live in the Ventura Mission, but haven't seen your son come our way yet. My son is on a mission too, in Chile, what a great call we had. We had heard from him after the earthquake/tsunami, but it was so good to hear his voice (As you know)
