  2. Being an immigrant family with little income but lots of kids, my Dad always praised the potato for being cheap and plentiful. Potatoes were one of the few foods that were not carefully portioned out, but we were allowed to eat as much as we wanted.

  3. I love potatoes....my family ran a drive in hamburger place when I was younger so I fell in love with French fries. I also love a good loaded baked potato. You did a great job on the license plate...very cute.

  8. Ah, I grew up in Idaho, and I have such a fondness for it. Unfortunately, though, when I mention this fact, the first question people ask me is, "Did you grow potatoes?" Now, I love potatoes, but not everyone from Idaho is a potato farmer. Just sayin'.

  9. My husbands choice side is a potato made in many different ways but he really loves them fried! Love your design! Thanks for the pattern and a chance to win!

  12. I actually like potatoes, but I grew up in a country that's living of potato export. :) Besides the general recipes, I also like making rösti (grated potato with onion, salt & pepper and little heaps fried in oil) and the quick way of "roasting", poke a lot of holes in a fresh potato with a fork, microwave it for 5 to 10 minutes and done. :)

  13. Potatoes are a staple in our home. We are currently growing some potatoes and sweet potatoes (for the first time!) in our vegetable patch!

    ReplyDelete
  14. In our house I think we eat more potatoes than anything else. A baked potato can be topped with almost anything and taste great. And as a quilter I don't always get a chance to "COOK".

  37. We love to fix up a potato bar for dinner from time to time. The best part about it is that I can wrap the potatoes in foil, stick them in the crockpot on low all day, and dinner is done without me having to be in the kitchen during the afternoon.
BTW, I have had your Idaho potato candy before (though not been to your state). It was a secret pal gift! Too fun!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have to try that candy!!! Okay, here's the big secret. A meal at our house isn't complete without potatoes. I know we're coming into potato salad weather but here is a roasted potato recipe that never fails to please! Cut as many potatoes as you need into wedges and spread them on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle a blop or two of olive oil over them and mix it up with your hands til they're all coated. Then sprinkle salt, pepper and Herbs de Provence over them. Roast till they're soft inside. Who needs meat?!!

I have lived in Idaho several times once in Idaho Falls for 6 months and once in Arco for close to 4 years - one thing about the Idaho potato people outside of the state might not know is that (back in the early 70's anyhow) is that kids were let out of school for 2 weeks in early? October to help with the potato harvest - I always thought that was pretty cool
