Dumbina?

She may not fly and have a magic feather but she soars through my world. Ew, that was awfully sugary sweet. Anywho......

Here she is. I used the Indygo Junction Yo-Yo Elephant pattern that I picked up at Quilt Market. I decided to go with a big print and leave off all the yo-yo's. She doesn't need them. I could not believe how fast she went together. Like in 30 minutes, I was done! This pattern was easy, peasy. (Pattern will be in the store shortly. I couldn't wait!)Doesn't it look hard to make?? That's what I thought. I'm not a sewing guru. But this girl was soooo easy. I took some shots of her underneath to show you that it's so simple but I felt that it exposed her too much. She's sensitive for an elephant. The pattern calls for a button tail which is just a cute, cute idea. But I didn't want buttons, just in case I wanted to give her to a small child. I thought of attaching the tail after the fact. So WHEN I make her again, and I WILL make her again (can you say Be A Good Human) I will sew her tail into the seam. I tried to tack it down really well, but a tenacious child could pull it off. So she'll just probably have to be MINE!!! "Marsha's" friend was here and was quite impressed with me. (she's 9) She gave her the name of Abby and I think that fits.

Does she ever know that she's my hero?? She IS the wind beneath my wings. ~Des

  2. On my goodness-that is a really adorable little elephant! And the big print is perfect for it! It does look like a hard pattern, but if you say it's easy, I may have to give it a try! So cute!

  3. Really cute. We've made elephants at my house using "another popular pattern" and it was a 5 hour process between me and my daughter. I don't like to hate on other peoples books or patterns but it was awful. So its nice there is a good one out there. We may buy it because our 2nd and 3rd attempt at the aformentioned elephant were not much better than the first! Love elephants.

  5. Very very cute! Where would the yo-yos have gone? I think it would have taken me 30 minutes just to cut it out, I'm so slow. Those "about an hour" animal patterns take me "about a day."

  6. The patterns have not arrived yet from Indygo Junction, they only let us buy one at quilt market & Des had to have the ONE. We're waiting. I can't imagine what it's like for these vendors after market - busy. ~Corrie

  7. The yo-yo's go all over the back. It is supposed to be a 'notion holder' thingy with your pins and needles being tucked into the yo-yo's. With cute 30's grandma fabric it would have been really cute, but i didn't think it worked for the big print I was using. But what do I know?? Might be spectacular!

  8. She is so adorable! What kind of stuffing do you use to fill her up? Is she stuffed tightly or is she squishy? I hope you know what I mean by that?

  9. I just used regular old poly-fil $3.99 20 oz. bag of stuffing. She's not super duper tightly stuffed. It seemed like her legs would stick out further the tighter I stuffed. Yet, she's not too squishy.

  10. HOW CUTE!! Love the print and the name. I am not sure I am 'buying' the easy factor. It looks small and tedious. I don't do well with small and tedious. I used to have my mom make these sorts of things for me. Talk me into it ;)
