Update: Rachel Griffiths You're a Winner!! I'll expect to see grand things made shortly!
I love all these card game ideas!! I've never heard of some of them. I just want to clarify that I LOVE the Partridge Family! So having this quilt would be fabulous! maybe I'll even make it out of some old Katie Jump Rope that I just can't cut in to. Okay, goodbye.
See you next Thursday!
Good Grief! With all of my most favorite magazines shutting down, dang economy, I'm so relieved that American Patchwork and Quilting is still here.
Ew, I hope they're not leaving me too.
Everybody, think good thoughts! Quick!
I've always been a big admirer of magazine verbage so I will let the APQ writers take us on this journey today. For the cover shot we have 101 Top tips!!! We have secrets..........and CRazY Piecing and EXclusive projects from famous people.
I'm feeling special already.
You know you're thinking it..........Uh huh, The Partridge Family. Let's see what the Editors say about it: Build a fanciful quilt block by block, stitching either one mother bird or two baby birds in each. The smooth, curvy pieces are a snap to machine-appliqué, and the retro-inspired design encourages the use of bold, bright fabrics.
As a 'mother-bird' type, I feel smooth and curvy too!
Midnight Garden by Jo Morton: Evening Star blocks—light stars on dark backgrounds—provide the focal point on a toile wall hanging.
I like Umbrellas.
Show off even the smallest scraps of reproduction or vintage fabrics in a miniature quilt. Bolder pieces set sail in the large triangles, while shirtings and small prints balance out the look.
If I'm going to "show off" anything, it's going to be my egg rolls.
check back tomorrow.
Show off your needle-turn appliqué skills on an elegant throw. Subtle shifts in color mean the Parisian-inspired motifs are nearly hidden.
Again, what is with all this lack of humility?
If I'm going to show off, it's going to be about Fried Rice.
Struggling to come up with pleasing fabric combinations? Um, no. I struggle with my weight, but thank you for checking. While color, print, and texture make a difference, the secret is contrast. Learn here what you need to know to create a striking quilt.
Whether you love retro or have fond memories of sleeping under a 1930s quilt, you’ll adore this cheerful row quilt. Strip-piecing makes assembly easy!
I have fond memories of The Little Mermaid.
Create a cool and tranquil quilt from low-contrast prints that have a hint of shimmer. Two simple blocks create intriguing secondary patterns. Hint of shimmer reminds me of Lip Gloss. I'm in love with the Lemon Lip Stuff from Bath and Body C.E.O bigler guy. I need it on my lips if I'm going to be able to be cool and tranquil while making this.
Star Power by Buggy Barn-- Discover the “crazy” way of making stars—no precise matching points and no paper piecing. Just layer fat quarters, cut through all of them at once, and shuffle the deck to easily create stunning stars. My favorite card game is Pit. Two, Two, Two, Two.............
To win this magazine as your very own........tell us what your favorite card game is.
Random Drawing, like the random question, later tonight.

Hi Just found your blog. I'd love to win the magazine. My favorite card game is a dutch game called "Pesta" I usually win when I play. My mum taught me, she used to play it with friends when we would go to the beach for our holidays.
ReplyDeleteWhat other magazines, that are your favorites are going out of business? What are you talking about egg rolls and fried rice?? These are quilts girl! Have you forgotten to take your meds tonight? You like Umbrellas? You struggle with your weight and have memories of The Little Mermaid and then your Lip Gloss??? Did you not like the magazine? Do you not care for their writing? I do prefer your witty writing style...well usually. Tonight, completely confused and bewildered.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite card game - Class Struggle. I hardly EVER win but it is a great chance to annoy and harass my hubby.
Now go get that prescription refilled!
I've been admiring that bird quilt on Flickr - just gorgeous. Not that I am at all capable of making it, but I can dream...
ReplyDeleteI'm fairly rubbish at card games, but I do like Uno! My 6 year old daughter got a pack for her birthday and is a shark!
This mag looks good. Would like to win it. Hope I am allowed to enter cos I,m a long way away in Crete. Now my favorite card game is Dark horse. I have played this game for as long as I can remember. If 4 are playing you deal 5 hands and have one card seperate face down which is the dark horse. Say it was the king of diamonds if you player the queen you win. We play for pennies. Now I bet thats as clear as mud.
ReplyDeleteOH I just love checking your blog (several times a day, I must admit) to see what you are up to. My favorite card game is called "Up and Down the River". Such a fun family game where you have to think....but not too much. I hope I win the magazine cuz you know none of us has enough of them already!!
ReplyDeleteI'm probably pretty boring, but my favorite card game is solitaire. :-) Thanks for yet another great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite card game is Rook.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite card game is Solitaire. When I was young I used love to play it with several decks of cards at one time! My mom used to love to play it, too and sometimes we would play it together. It was lots of fun! I love this magazine!
ReplyDeleteHave a Blessed Day,
Diane
I don't play cards much, but I guess I'd say Uno. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeletemy favorite is gin rummy - old game but I have always like it, others that I like is regular rummy, spades and uno

Oh, you guys are CRAZY!! You need to play Phase 10!! Even if you hate to play cards, you will love this game. Thanks, Des and Corrie, for always making me smile at the beginning of each day!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite card game is-Speed! I played it as a teen and taught my daughters as soon as they were old enough for me to beat...err...umm...play! We only play a two-player version but I suppose more than two can play. You dole out seven cards to each person, lay the rest of the deck face down and turn over one card. You then begin laying down cards in order, for instance if a seven is turned over you either lay down an 8 or a 6 so on and so forth. If you can not lay down a card you have to draw and keep on drawing until you can lay down a card. Who ever gets rid of the cards in their hand is the winner, even if their are cards remaining in the face down deck. Keep in mind that you don't take turns, you just start laying down cards - it is one big free for all. It can get pretty frenzy and funny!
ReplyDeleteEnter me please...My fave card game is Gin Rummy..and I'm good too.. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm all about the rummy too!
ReplyDeleteHollywood Rummy has got to be my favorite---The more people you have to play the better.....Great quilt photos.
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE the bird quilt...I am fascinated with birds lately...
ReplyDeleteI watch two neighbor kids after school and have been teaching them to play "war"... They love it...

now THAT'S oldschool!!!
hahaha.
i can't wait to get my hands on this magazine.
one way or another!!!
:D
My favorite card games are Uno and Bluff. At lest that's what we call it, some people call it b.s., which we all know stands for bible study, right! :D
ReplyDeleteI love to play Canasta.
ReplyDeleteI also love that birdie quilt. I need it.
You are hilarious Des. HILARIOUS. I loved this post. Sometimes I say things like that to myself when I read magazines, books, or stuff. I'm in reality zone when they are in not reality. I think. The quilts are lovely. Especially love the vintage touches, of course. Those birds though - wowie. My favorite game is called hand and foot. It is a card game we play with friends sometimes. Not so much lately - I'm too busy. But when our kids were little they'd bring their kids over and the kids would all have fun watching a movie or playing a game and the adults played hand and foot in the kitchen at the table. It is kind of a canasta type game they tell me, though I've never played canasta - I think. Fun post. I'm looking forward to that chinese food now - get busy!
ReplyDeleteThank you for making me laugh this morning! That bird quilt made my heart flutter - get it? Flutter - bird - ha! Eh, I'll leave the humor to you. :)
ReplyDeleteI love a good game of CRazY 8's.
luv the Midnight Garden quilt. i don't play cards much lately. but the best fun is a Match-The-Card game with a little one who is only about four or five.
ReplyDeleteWe love Apples to Apples. And I love the partridge quilt. I might even pretend to be crafty and try it out. Hmm..
ReplyDeleteThe magazine looks great! My favorite card game is "I Doubt It" Our family goes crazy over this game..we all become very good liars.
ReplyDeleteMille Bornes. French for 1,000 milestones. How do I know this? It's written on the box.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite card game is called "Hand and Foot". It's extra special because we only play it when we're at the family cabin. It's the perfect combination of luck versus strategy in a card game. I LOVE it! You know what else I love? Quilt Taffy! Do I get extra points for sucking up?
ReplyDeleteMy current favorite card game is Set. I like that all ages can play at once!
ReplyDeleteAnd that birdie quilt--soooo cute!
Would love to win the magazine...I HAVE to make the bird quilt.
ReplyDeleteFavorite card game? A lot to choose from but I'll say Apples to Apples. The whole family can play and we can teach visitors in an instant and all be playing together in no time!
Wow, I like a lot of the patterns in this issue! Let's see, my favorite card game ..... how about Old Maid? Is it now politically incorrect to play a card game called Old Maid?
ReplyDeleteHi, I would love to win the magazine. I could use some "new" inspiration! My favorite card game is when I play Skip-Bo with my kids!
ReplyDeleteI just loved all the pictures and your comments. Use to love to play canasta, my sisters and I would play for hours.
ReplyDeleteI like to play Canasta too.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoyed playing War - I can still remember playing it in the rain while camping, over and over again.
ReplyDeleteI love Mille Bornes too (never figured out how to say it though). Hmm, it's been a while, I should dig it up again.... LOVE LOVE LOVE the bird quilt. Who cares if it's a little Partridge Family....
ReplyDeleteLOVE to play spades, can go on for hours! :-D Love this mag too, and your blog! Best, Ani
ReplyDeleteMy favorite card game is crib, although I suck at math and thinking on my feet so I'm not much good at it. I don't get to play very often as my husband doesn't like to play games. I also really like Canasta, although you need many decks and many people to play!
ReplyDeleteLet's be clear. If I'm going to "show off" my needleturn applique, I'm not going to waste my time on motifs that are "nearly hidden." However, seeing what my needleturn applique does look like, maybe it should be.
ReplyDeleteI love the small quilts. I have a subscription to this mag so when I see you post I know mine is coming soon. I hope it doesn't go out of business. My quilt magazines are my favorite form of therapy.
You are SO FUNNEY!!! I think I like your version of things better. I do like the bird quilt. It's really cute. And Uno is my favorite card game.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite card game is cribbage. I have lots of great memories of playing with my family.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite card game is 500 with my Mom as my partner and my Dad and husband as opponents. Since my parents are 88 and 89 it is so fun to see them get excited, tease each other and celebrate when they win. I am so blessed to have them nearby so I can often just pop over for an evening of 500.
ReplyDeleteI love "rook" and now is a great time to be indoors playing it. I really like it when I beat my husband.
ReplyDeleteHe hates to lose....
Love playing go fish with kids, love seeing how excited they get when you have the card they need.
ReplyDeleteKathie
Let's see, I think that my favorite card game is one that we call 'the fun game'. It is quite similar to Phase 10 but with ech level, you have a different amount of cards that you can borrow from an opponant. It is really fun. I really love this magazine, always have. Would really love to win a copy!
ReplyDeleteOoo I love mama bird and her babes.
ReplyDeleteThat would look so cute in my grandbaby's room. My favorite card game is "99". It's fast paced and you can visit with everyone at the table all nite long!
Oh! if I don't win I will have to buy that one. I know this is silly but my favorite card game is solitar.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone, I'm just learning this blogging thing. Trying to stay "up" on my computer lingo.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think playing cards is much easier than staying current with computer lingo! I love playing "99" it's fast and you don't have to think real hard. Anyway greetings to all of you -- my new friends!
Would love to win the magazine. Along with the downturning economy I have given up buying magazines so winning one would be great. Favorite card game has to be "Go Fish". If I had a penny for everytime I played that with my boys. They are grown now and it has been some time since I played but I still love it. Dusty@telus.net.
