  1. Can't say much about skating except I love it! Don't get to do it much her in Oz, but we did just get a new skate rink which is pretty cool. The blisters not so much though...

  5. When I was a little girl, and winters were still always cold and the canal next to our house would freeze over.. I got some beautiful white 'proper' skates (with shoes on them as opposed the bit of wood with a blade and straps we all used) for Christmas. I found it very hard to learn but remember I managed to do forewards, backwards and a turn, of which I was very proud! (no dancing on ice stuff you understand.. but hey, not bad for a little kid). The winters got warmer and the years passed.. One day my children wanted to go to the ice rink. Great! Why not! I proudly put on the rented skates and went onto the ice... and guess what? I couldn't do it anymore... I barely could stand up whilst my kids (first timers) whizzed around me.. I always thought that once you knew how to skate, you would know forever... not so! amazing...

Love the new christmas fabric! Thanks for a lovely giveaway and making me remember the happy feeling I had skating as a kid.

  6. I have the best picture - circa 1975 - of me on the ice, new ice skates, and a new Christmas parka. I really thought I was an ice princess that day. Didn't every girl want to grow up and be Dorothy Hamill after the '76 Olympics -- complete with that great Dorothy haircut!

I grew up in Rochester, NY...in the winter we'd go ice skating everyday after school on a frozen pond behind one of my classmates' houses...I loved the white figure skates with the black heels - so stylin' !

  12. To paraphrase Ellen Page's character in the film Whip It!, I think the last time I wore skates, they had Rainbow Brite on them. I do have some fond memories of going to the ice rink though...

  13. When I was younger, we would put our skates on, then walk down to our neighbours through the snow. We would skate on their pond until we heard Dad whistle, then hike it backe home. Then we would beg Mom to put our feet in warm water (even though that so would have hurt). We were so cold, and probably had frostbite often, but it was such fun.

Thanks for bringing up the memories.

I hardly ever get the chance but I loved it.

  27. In high school I went skating with friends and there were often older hockey-playing guys around, so we were trying to be super cool (though we were having trouble staying upright). They had orange traffic cones for the little ones to hang onto while getting the feel of skates, so I decided to grab one. I promptly found myself on my butt - friends said I flipped over it, but I don't rememeber being airborne... So much for impressing the boys! Thanks for a chance to win!

  28. I remember in 5th and 6th grade for getting all A's and B's we would go to the roller skating rink one day each semester. That was pretty much the only time I would go, so I was terrible -- would fall down a lot. And it was totally embarrassing when they had the couples skate, girls' choice.

    Love Kate Spain.

Me and my brothers would skate for hours (well, it seemed like hours!:) They would have a big bonfire and you could sit around it to stay warm. And then we would all walk home - talking and playing in the snow. And every time we would get home- my Mom would have homemade hot chocolate waiting for us.:) I will never forget those times! I would love to win some of this fabric!:) Thanks!

  39. When I was a kid, we lived 1 block away from a lake. We would go skating and my big brother was there to watch over us. We had to walk to the lake in our boots and then put our skates on when we got there. My brother was helping us tie our skates and a dog ran up and took his boot and started off across the lake. I was amazed at how fast my brother could skate when he took off after that dog!

  41. I haven't skated in forever, roller skate or ice skate. No ice here in the desert. And no roller rinks nearby either. I do love both kinds of skating though. But at my age, maybe I shouldn't be doing either anyway!

There is something wrong about thinking about winter fabric when we have not even had our fill of summer heat lol...However on the topic of skating, it is soooo cold here this morning, we could skate in our forest streams...lol That is of course if I could skate...I was a swimmer, while everyone else was outdoors skating, I was doing laps getting ready for the next competition. Where is the swimming fabrics lol...blessings to you for keeping us abreast of new fabrics...ms

    ReplyDelete
  51. I went roller skating for the first time in over 20 years recently. It was so scary (things hurt more now than when I was 12 lol) but my kids got a huge kick, and I had a good time (and a good workout LOL)

  66. Cool, Thanks for the draw!! I loved to skate when I was younger, even took a bit of figure skating, but my fear of water lead to me quitting because even in an ice rink i was afraid i was going to fall through!!! I think this stems from watching movies where people fall through the ice on rivers, not really sure...lol...and now that fear and my fear of water is gone, but my ankles aren't strong enough to hold me up in my skates so i don't get to skate anymore.

    Thanks again!

She's starting to learn how to swizzle (I think that's what it is called?) and can wiggle back and forth to make herself go backwards. So fun to watch 3 and 4 year olds ice skate! She's taking a break now, but I'm sure she'll be back into come fall.
