  7. For me, when I look into a deer's eyes it's like looking into an old soul. You can see straight to their heart when eye contact is made. They are just very sweet.
Thanks for the giveaway, this set was put together so perfectly I would absolutely love to make a quilt with it!

  8. We don't see them much where we live, and we are living close to the sea. But once or twice a year there's one jumping through our garden in full speed!
I must tell you about my son when he was little.
I think he was at the age of two plus plus. He was watching the Bambi video, and when Bambi's mother died, he was so sorry for Bambi and started crying. He never wanted to see that video again, and he never has. He's now at the age of 22, so I think he'll be ready for it now! :-)

  21. I just had an encounter with deer last weekend. In my side yard I had a mother deer and her fawn that somehow found themselves on opposite sides of a chain link fence. I watched and photographed them mostly through my open window -- the mother was about 15 feet away. I could hear the baby "crying" -- if deer do that. They finally got themselves reunited on the same side of the fence but I watched for about 30 minutes before they figured it out.

  59. A few years back there was a deer lying under a tree in our backyard. We thought it was giving birth. When we called the local wildlife service they came and quickly informed us that it had actualy been hit by a car and needed to be put down. I can't tell you how disappointed my kids were when they were no longer allowed to watch from the window of the deer giving birth and trying to explain the gunshot a few minutes later was interesting. Yes, my children are firm believers that deer get to go to heaven as well.

  64. Deer are elegant and beautiful animals. I live at the base of a mountain and we see the deer trotting through the neighborhood all winter, spring and fall. They love tulips, which are highly nutritious. They won't eat daffodils as they are poisonous. Occasionally, a cougar follows the deer down the mountainside. Then things get really interesting.

  65. Once, when I was driving in Scotland, a deer jumped from the hillside on to the top of my car and ran away! I don't think it was hurt at all but I had a terrible time explaining why I had a dent in the roof when I took the rental car back. Thanks for the chance.

But this spring I was coming around the bend in our driveway to take the kids to school and then BAM...this white tail doe hops right out in front of us through the pine trees and off she went. 80. My husband's family owns two small islands (they really are small, and have been in the family for 100 years), and every year, deer swim over to their property from a larger island, that is quite populated, to have their fawns. There is no greater way to start your day than with a coffee on the patio and watching a deer walk by with her fawn.

My sister was trying everything she could to get them to go to bed. Finally at one point someone looked out the window and saw a couple of deer in the front yard. They yelled "Santa's reindeer are in the yard!" The girls saw them and FREAKED--running to bed as fast as they could so Santa could deliver their presents. That year they were still believers...

She was injured and limped badly and when she first came was gaunt, obviously having problems getting food. My the time those babies were grown she was as fat as a butterfall on the corn my husband was putting out for her. :) blessings, marlene

  130. We were camping a few weeks ago and a boy (probably about 10 years old) came running through our camp. He stopped long enough to say "Excuse me sir, but I think I'm being chased by a deer." Sure enough, about one minute later, a deer came prancing through our camp. Luckily, he turned and went the opposite direction from the boy. Poor kid! I bet it was scary to have a deer chasing after him! There were a lot of deer around our campsite that night.

Maybe she thought she was a guard dog...? :) Fond memories of childhood!

  138. Deer, where I am from are sometimes more a nuisance than "cute". They eat the corn, trample the hay and break through fences...I have had accidents as have friends, when deer pop out onto the road when you least expect it. I like to see them from afar...they are afterall one of God's creations, and he doesn't make mistakes.

  157. Deer are beautiful animals. My husband and son are hunters, so we always have venison in our freezer. My dad was also a hunter, so I grew up on venison. I know that many think that hunting them is wrong, but it is needed to prevent over population.
