Last year's Halloween had to be my favorite. Our family was "Things on a Rear View Mirror". Hubby and I were red fuzzy dice, Greg was a green tree air freshner and we almost had Marsha talked into being a graduation tassle but she bolted at the last minute and went as a kitty. I'm needing some new ideas. If you don't give me something good, I'm going to have to go with condiments this year, Ketchup, mustard, relish...............and a kitty.
My favorite costumes were the year my kids decided to be bugs. We had a lot of fun with those costumes and the kids were crazy cute.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute- thanks for the giveaway! I remember my friend dressed as a mailbox for halloween one year- what a bulky costume!

Favorite halloween costume. In norway there is not a tradition celebrating halloween. But in the last few years it has become more and more popular among kids.
ReplyDeleteThe norwegian tradition however is to dress up in costumes and go asking for sweets in the time between christmas and new year.
One of my most memorable costumes was the year I procrastinated on deciding, and at the last minute had to be a clown. We pulled mishmas clothes out of the closet, dad's shoes and tie, red lipstick cheeks... It turned out to be a really fun project and a cute outfit.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up very poor most of our costumes were handmade. I think my favorite was when I was about 6 It was in the 70's and jumpsuits were the big thing. My mom took one of her jumpsuits and reworked it because I wanted to be a cat! I remember watching her work so hard on it and even the tail was made from part of the leg that she had to cut off and she stuffed it. I know now that my mom was always sad that she could not give us the best but to me, it was perfect. I was so young, I didn't know we were poor!!!! But it did make for the best memories!

My favorite costumes were the year my youngest son was a Care Bear, and my oldest was an Ewok. I made those costumes, and it took me forever. We lived in the country, and the minute they stepped outside they were full of burrs. Not a good choice of fabrics!!
ReplyDeleteI loved every year dressing up for Halloween as a kid,but they weren't very inventive.Gypsy, tramp, clown, just the usual things. With all your involvement in the sewing world how about something along that line?? Scissors, ruler, quilt &..kitty?!
ReplyDeleteNot my costume, but the kid next door to us when I was growing up always came up with the most fantastic costumes. Jimmy was a mummy one year and his mom wrapped him in torn sheets and then he rolled in the dirt..another year he used a big box and some paper on a roll to make a TV set costume... I was always a bum, so I could wear comfy clothes...lol
ReplyDeleteOh oh...about 8 years ago, I was working as a pediatric office nurse. We all decided to dress up for Halloween, including the docs..then at the last minute we all chickened out...lol We forgot to tell one of the receptionists and she came dressed as a BABY!! complete with diaper, bib and baby hat....WE WERE ROTFLOAO....
My son is 5 and I learned to sew after he was born. I have been very proud to sew his Halloween costumes starting when he was 2. His first costume, a frog, was difficult for me. The next year, he asked to be a bird - but not just any bird - a cardinal. As there were no new bird patterns, I found a vintage one on eBay and then modified it so it looked like a cardinal. I guess that has been my favorite one so far. Last year he asked to be a black widow spider - I had to modify that pattern, too. This year - mummy! Again, no patterns so I'm experimenting with fleece and cheesecloth.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity!
My favorite costume has to be the one my 5 year old is going to wear this year...Daphne from Scooby Doo, orange wig and all!! She is so excited : )
ReplyDeleteMy favorite halloween costume had to be the ones my sister made a few years back. Saw them in a kids magazine. Legos! Big box, with cottage cheese/sour cream/ yogurt or the like containers glued to the front, all spray painted the same color, hole for head and arms, open end where your legs are. ADORABLE! She and her husband were stuck together quite often on the dance floor. LOL. Fun Giveaway! But I'm still bummed I didn't win a pin cushion! Can you believe I have ONE pin cushion, and it's an ugly tomato! ooxx`jod
ReplyDeleteWe usually just made up a costume from our own clothes. Mostly cowboys or girls or hobos. Lots more fancy stuff these days. Linda Gerig
ReplyDeleteMy favorite costume so far was my son's 50's greaser kid costume. He was only four and had an adorable leather jacket and slicked back hair.
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to make a perfect Cinderella costume. Having only one son, it never happened. The closest I got was making a full on White Power Ranger costume complete with gold lame. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteHolly Hobbie, I can't tell you how many times my mom dressed me up as Holly Hobbie

ReplyDeleteMy favorite was when my daughter was 10 and I dressed her up like a scarecrow and she won for best costume. Awe, she looked so cute.
ReplyDeleteOh, I can't decide between when Sara was a monkey for her first Halloween or when she was Belle last year. I made both costumes, so I think I'm partial! :) Thanks for the treats! Have a beautiful day!
ReplyDeleteI am told that the first year I dressed up as a little kid, I scared myself! The best costume was at a dorm party when a bunch of guys went as the fruit of the loom guys, with colored balloons and were all bound around with a white sheet!
ReplyDeleteThis is a hard one...I think my favorite would have to be my oldest son's first. It was a Mickey Mouse coustume I made. Thanks for the giveaway!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite costume was the year my baby girl dressed up as tinkerbell - she looked so cute!
I have to say my favorite Halloween was definitely when my husband and I and two of our friends went as Betty and Barney and Fred and Wilma. We had a blast.
ReplyDeleteI will have to say I know that memory will be replaced very soon with the ones of my daughters when they get old enough to enjoy Halloween.
My favorite halloween costume growing up was the one my mom made for me. It was a clown costume. I loved it. She worked so hard on it for several months and I felt so proud to wear it knowing it was made with so much love!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I loved being Annie best of all!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween costume growing up was this wacked out alien store bought costume. Crazy stuff.
ReplyDeleteBut my favorite costume in all the world was the one my son wore last year --- a handmade scarecrow costume made by a local seamstress.
OK I have a great yellow and white clown costume that hasn't been worn much and you can borrow it! I live close enough that I could bring it to your door! Just know that I want to win this giveaway! Does the bowl of treats come with???? I'm not greedy.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite costume was Miss Piggy when I was in 3rd grade. My grandmother made it and it was truly awesome! hedwards 25@yahoo. com

ReplyDeleteThis might sound really dumb, but my favorite costume was the year that my husband and I were engaged. I was a butterfly and he was a butterfly catcher. It was fun. If fit us perfectly. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with the table runner. Great give away.
My favorite holloween was when I went as Cindi Lauper complete with a skirt made of newspaper. I have made everyone of my childrens costumes and now think I could open a costume store with all the ones I have. My favorite for my daughter was little red riding hood when she was three and for my son a lion when he was two. Now they don't want to be cute only scary what fun is that..Growing up my neighbor dressed up every year we loved it. she still trick-or treated, dressed up, well into her 80's..
ReplyDeleteHi Des - how about Things from your Bathroom Counter? One year in college I worked in a restaurant where we all dressed up on Halloween - three of us went as toothpaste, toothbrush and mouthwash - it was a riot! I love that table runner and pattern! Please enter me in your drawing! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite halloween costume was a genie - complete with belly chains (do they still make those?).
ReplyDeleteThis kit is FABULOUS! I just LOVE Fall! I think my favorite costume when I was little was my Strawberry Shortcake costume. My mom made it for me and I wore it ALL the time!! My daughter on the other hand who is 6 this year has been a cow 3 times (by choice)....
ReplyDeleteI have a few favorites...One year when my 2 kids were pretty little I decided to make them both mummies. I was in line at a store buying white thermal jammies to then wrap strips of a sheet to make the costumes. My son and I were talking about how we would make the costumes and my daughter (about 2) says "I don't want to me a Mommy, I want to be the Daddy." So that year my son was a mummie and my daughter was a Daddy. It turned out way cute.
ReplyDeleteOne of my other favorites were one year my son was a scarecrow and my daughter was Dorothy. They both won cosume awards at school that year.
Oh my heck! I have been looking in so many places to find a cute runner like this! I wish I had the talent and patience to make one myself... but then I would most likely swear WAY to much and I am afraid that my husband and children would never look at me the same way again!
ReplyDeleteI wore a lampshade one year. Attached some outrageous trims to it, held out the cord and the plug for people. Cut a little hole so I could see. I have a picture around here somewhere. . .
ReplyDeleteThe best costume I ever saw (wasn't mine) was at a Halloween party a couple of years ago. This lady came dressed in a bright pink sweat shirt, bright pink sweat pants and tennis shoes which she had spray painted pink to match. She had a kid-size resin chair on her head as a hat. Can you guess what she was? A piece of bubble gum stuck to the bottom of a chair. It was too funny! I think she won most original costume. I'm always something lame. Although one year my husband dressed up like Quasimoto and I was the big brass tower bell, complete with a wireless door bell i carried in my pocket. That wasn't bad. anyhow, I NEED that table runner kit!! pick me, pick me!
ReplyDeleteThe only costume I recall from my childhood was a clown costume. My Dad got some fabric from the garment district in Los Angeles and brought it home to mom so she could make a costume for me. It was shiny and stripes. Big stripes. Little did he know that the shine was produces by fiberglass dust. My poor mother made that dratted costume for me...and her hands were cut to bits as a result. I wadn't more than 4 but I remember that costume. I sure did shine at night, though!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween costume has to be my son's this year. He's 2 1/2 and is finally starting to grasp the concept of Halloween. His costume is a full body dog, complete with dog head as a hood and even a tail. We've been practicing and instead of saying trick or treat he says "RUFF" every time! :) Would love to win this, great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite was when my sister and her husband dressed up as a pair of dice. She just used big cardboard boxes. I thought that it was so creative.
ReplyDeleteFavorite Halloween costumes were when My 3 year old was Darth Vader and my 5 month old was princess leah :) Complete with buns and all!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite costume is my son's for this year. He is going to be a skunk. It is his second Halloween, and we are planning on attending our town's festivities. So exciting for me, a first time parent.
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing giveaways!
My very favorite costume had to be the one that my mother made for me when I was in third grade.
ReplyDeleteShe sewed an awesome "Holly Hobbie" outfit for me . . . complete with giant bonnet! I won a prize in our small town's Halloween parade and I was so proud of my Mom's ability to make this cool costume out of a pile of fabric she had stashed in the attic.
I never buy costumes. I told my kids if they really wanted to, they should come up with something creative. My dd went as a bag of trash and my ds went as a tree! lol They were great costumes! :o)
ReplyDeleteThe cutest costumes that I every saw were a family at wash day. One was a washing machine, the other was a dryer (just made out of boxes) and the other was the dishwashing detergent. Extremely cute and easy. Funny, Funny
