potluck
[pot-luhk] noun
- food or a meal that happens to be available without special preparation or purchase. wrong!
- A meal at which each guest brings food that is then shared by all. right!
Potluck pretty much consumes my thoughts.
I'm always panicked and worried.
"What am I going to take to the luncheon?"
Okay, so I'm pride-ful. Let me look THAT word up. Oh, look! There's a picture of me by the word! How did that happen??
I. Don't. Know.
But what I DO know is that I need a Potluck meal every other week for our "Be A Good Human" days at church.
Mmmmmm.....I ran across this yum-ster this week and just knew that it would be perfect for my new bowl.........that I bought because I was thinking how cool (here's where the pride creeps in) I would be walking in with my neat-o bowl with a handle. Pride really reared it's ugly head when I saw this and I knew I had a homerun of a potluck!!!
Heath Bars?? Are you kidding me?
I can so totally make this with my eyes closed AND feed a crowd.
Now, if I could have dragged my blue chair with me.......I just might have been Queen for the Day.
There's always next week.
Do you have a homerun potluck recipe for me??

OH MY GOSH that looks sooo good!! Was it good?? I am not overly fond of cool whip (just too much AIR!) but the cake and pudding and the Heath bars could easily make up for the cool whip. Yeah, since when does potluck ever mean take what you have in the fridge?? **rolling my eyes** Neither does it mean that dh can just show up with something, OH NO it means that not only must the woman think of something to make she also has to shop for it and then make it! I usually make my hubby carry it in though. ;) Potluck at our church tomorrow-ugh. I am taking caesar salad and magic cookie bars I think.
ReplyDeleteoh. my. heavens.
ReplyDeletecan you share that recipe???
i'll share one back with you!!!
wowee that's a big cup! Didn't really realize it til I saw it on the fab blue chair. I think you've def found your go-to potluck item. :-)

ReplyDeleteDear Heavenly Days, I want some, and I mean really want some, right now, it looks wonderful especially sitting on your to gosh darn cute blue chair, in that so gosh darn cute bowl!!
ReplyDeleteUmmm, wow. I would have been prideful on that too...I love that bowl!! Where did you find it? Although if I got one then I would also need a blue chair...lol. I have a couple recipes on my blog, one here:

The salad is always a hit at family functions, but the chocolate brownie pie is just a favorite of mine. :)
I have made a similar triffle that is a hit....I use brownies instead of cake, and then 1 box of white chocolate pudding mixed with 1 box of cheesecake pudding with the cool whip....it calls for the heath on top....but everyone raves when I use raspberries instead. Yours looks delicious...and who doesn't like to be the hit of the party, I ask you??
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm no cook so I don't have any recipes to share. Hold on I have to get a napkin to wipe the drool up. That concoction looks divine. Was it as yummy as it looked? Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteThat bowl is sooo cute!
ReplyDeleteOkay the bowl is just stinking awesome and you had me at Heath Bars... I mean really how can you go wrong with toffee & chocolate?
ReplyDeleteBravo my friend, Bravo!

ReplyDeleteyummo!! I'm going to have to try this one!! I love the bowl!
ReplyDeleteI ***L*O*V*E*** that recipe. I make it with dark chocolae mousse and use Triple Fudge Brownies. At Christmas time I substitute Andes Mints for the Heath - DIVINE!
ReplyDeleteGotta go look for one of those enormous coffee cups. To die for!
That looks sooooo good! And I love the bowl. I think you should share a recipe for this one.
ReplyDeleteThe recipe is linked in the post under the technical word: "Yumster" :)
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, it was yummy. Not fancy, but simple and chocolatey and quick. Perfect potluck. Would be good with a variety of variations. Is that redundant?
OOOOh I just posted a yummy dessert on my recipe blog http://chiltonkitchen.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteIt is a super easy sticky roll recipe. So so so good.
I love your definition of potluck...it's funny some people I know think it's the other
I'll potluck with you anytime! I love, love, love your bowl. Where can we get one? I may just sneak down to a Be A Human Day sometime and see what is on the menu!
ReplyDeleteIf you want quick, easy, and sure to please, try BLT pasta salad.
ReplyDeleteBLT PASTA SALAD
Ingredients:
1 (16 ounce) package medium seashell pasta
1 pound sliced bacon
1 1/2 cups light Ranch-style salad dressing 1 small onion, chopped
2 tomatoes, chopped
Directions:
1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the pasta, and cook until tender, about 8 minutes. Drain, and rinse under cold water to cool.
2. Meanwhile, cook the bacon in a large deep skillet over medium-high heat until browned and crisp. Remove from the pan and drain on paper towels.
3. In a large bowl, stir together the Ranch dressing, onion, and tomatoes. Mix in the cooled pasta. The pasta will absorb some of the dressing, so don't worry if it seems like too much. Refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Crumble bacon over the top just before serving.
Wow.Just...wow. I want me some of that right now. I'm the same way about potlucks--who doesn't want to be the one that everyone wants the recipe from?
ReplyDeleteI bought the bowl at a place called "Tai Pan Trading" in Salt Lake. It looks like there are only 3 stores in Utah and one showing up in So. Cal. soon, Rancho Cucomonga.
ReplyDeleteIt cost me $12 which i thought was steep for the "wholesale-made-in-china" advertising they have going. But I justified it very quickly in my mind and bought it anyway, because of pride. I mean, really, their other dishes are like $3-$5.
Cute bowl! I would bring seven layer dip or PW's bacon-wrapped jalapenos or my momma's lemon bars. But nothing could top that cute bowl with a handle!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Des! Now I have to clean this drool off my computer keybkaosgksasssssssssssss
